Where I am from (writing challenge)

You guys got me inspired to write a poem but I am sorry that it didn't turn out like most.

 

 

I am From

Carol Roach

 

The cozy comfort of a warm inviting womb

Taking my first breath of life

In large white hospital room

 

I am from a broken home living in abject poverty

There were no promises of a brighter tomorrow

For my grandmother and me

 

From my humble beginnings a beautiful flower did grow

A child of the universe flourished

In this land of ice and snow

 

In Montreal I have lived my whole life through

Many trials and tribulations

Dreams and aspirations too

 

The dark years are behind me of this I always knew

For I found my voice in writing

Like many people do

 

My heart cries out to touch another human soul

Once remembering that I was so lonely

Now God’s spirit made me whole

 

I climb the highest mountain, soar the wondrous sky

My words reach out to many

Like the wind they will fly

 

If I make but one person happy with the words that I write

I will be thankful for all my blessings

God, the universe, and his precious light

This is so beautifully moving. I can sense ambition (the right kind) all the way through. You are such a great person of insight and character. Your name is written on every petal of every rose, such is your value.

Your poem reminded me of one I wrote some years ago. Here it is:

A Life

I asked for a life that I could live
To fulfil dreams of mine
I know I have so much to give
To make my light shine
To me a life was surely granted
Not quite as I had thought
But tiny seeds I have planted
In hearts of those who sought
A little help from one like me
Seeds that grew and flourished
Into blooms that all can see
With Love been carefully nourished

Carol, this was great. I hope I just misread and you weren't selling yourself short. I wouldn't want my poem to be like everyone else's so why should you?

Johnney, David challenged us to do I am from poems. If you look under the tag where I am from you should find a lot of them. Maybe you'll want to try one yourself :)

Carol!...This is great! You met the challenge very well, and in your own 'voice'. (smilezz) I know quiet well how writing can turn out so different than intended, but good just the same(or maybe better, sometimes?). Some of my best writing just take their own twists and turns untill they're finished:) Thank you, Carol for this poem- I as well as others have enjoyed it!

Yes Sue I have touched many people with all my writings, I have been writing for about 10 years now, I have a book published stories in anthologies and I have a second manuscript ready to go to a publisher as soon as I find one

I loved your take on this theme. Join the "whereamifrom" group and republish it to that group if you can find the time. It seems so many people are from broken homes these days, and the way you turned-out should be an inspiration to all. Your words are so strong, yet i find them humble as well.
