At 21:30:25 UTC today, our island was rocked by a 5.0 earthquake...... The Map is Centered at 20°N, 156°W and the location is very close to one of the earthquakes a few weeks ago.
The good news.......no aftershocks or tsunamis generated, but we just heard there was a landslide cutting off Hwy 19 (our main artery around the island) just 13 miles north of us.....thank goodness we don't have to go but just one mile north for our Thanksgiving celebration.
I have heard from several friends on the Kona side saying this will just congest the hwys some more due to cleanups of rock falls, etc.....just after the cleanup is almost finished from the previous..........
When I felt it, I ran to the kitchen to turn my gas stove off............
Turkey is now roasting back on schedule.......!
Oh, the unexpected joys of living on a live volcanic island.... ;-)))
Thankfully, all is well!

Hope your Thanksgiving was great!
Shannon....shake a box of cereal and multiply it by 1,000,000 and you will get the idea......;-)
Kristina...thank you!
William...you're right! I heard reports of a couple of landslides and rockfalls.......but not much more....of course, I was too busy to watch TV and keep up so, I haven't heard yet of other damages anywhere else.
Tina, it was wonderful.........I could barely move by the time we got home I was so exhausted but everyone seemed to have a lovely time
Thank you, Lynn...I hope yours was also nice!
Stephanie, the day went on as if nothing had happened! I will write about our Thanksgiving party later and hopefully the pictures came out
Nancy, one of our group said yesterday she was almost ready to leave the island....until the rest of us started to tell her no place was safe....hurricanes hit the east.....tornadoes the mid states......earthquakes can happen anywhere......mudslides and fires on the west...........and tsunamis can heat any coastal areas.......!
Thanks Marsha, we had a great day in spite of Madame Pele.....maybe not enough people made the trek to the rim and left her booze and flowers because everyone was busy with Thanksgiving.... LOL
Thank you Adele. We were certainly thankful
LOL, Kathy....that kind of excitement I could do without!
Karma, one of our relatives called from Kansas. Said his ballgame was interrupted to report the quake.....! One of his comments: Couldn't it have waited til the game was over???
All is well here and we did manage to have a wonderful party with our friends. I will write about our feast later
I just published an article about our Thanksgiving Dinner Party
I have been out of town for a few days so I have missed alot of articles. I will never catch up.
i know what you mean...I was gone all day yesterday to a craft fair and even with one day I'm way behind on reading and checking on my connections!
