An interesting study done by Auckland’s Starship Children’s Hospital has produced the recommendation that Children as old as 12 should be strapped into booster seats.
Further clarification of the recommendation reveals that this is all height based. So some but not all 12 year olds should be in booster seats. It all comes down to the Childs size.
As a result of this study there is pressure on the Government to look into the rules around child restraints with the view to toughening up on it.
I’m all for keeping people, especially Children safe in our motor vehicles but I challenge anyone to try make a 12 year old sit in a booster seat. Imagine the ribbing they would take from their friends who are not in booster seats.
How about making the cars themselves safer and look at the seat belts themselves.
