OK, let me state for the record that I find homophobia reprehensible and I find it offensive. HOWEVER, I think here Kelly Ripa just didn't want someone who she doesn't know all that well to stick his germy hand on her mouth. I wouldn't want anyone doing that either! Sometimes Rosie goes totally overboard in assuming things are because of an anti-gay bias, rather than say in this case, an anti-GERM bias.

Rosie O'Donnell Chides Kelly Ripa For 'Homophobic' Remark
![]() |
Rosie O'Donnell chided talk show host Kelly Ripa on The View Tuesday, calling her comment last week about Clay Aiken – who guest hosted Friday's Live with Regis and Kelly – "homophobic" and "a little odd."
During an interview with Dancing with the Stars winners Cheryl Burke and Emmitt Smith on Friday's Live, Aiken put his hand over Ripa's mouth so he could interject a question. "Oh, that's a no-no," Ripa said, adding, "I don't know where that hand's been, honey!"
On Tuesday's View, O'Donnell told her co-hosts, "To me that's a homophobic remark. If that was a straight man, if that was a cute man, if that was a guy that she didn't question his sexuality, she would have said a different thing."
(Aiken does not discuss his sexual orientation, and told PEOPLE in September, "People are going to believe what they want.")
Ripa was quickly patched in by phone to address O'Donnell's accusations.
"He reached across and covered my mouth with his hand," Ripa said. "I have three kids (and) he's shaking hands with everybody in the audience. It's cold and flu season. That's what I meant, and to imply that it's homophobic is outrageous, Rosie. And you know better. You should be more responsible."
O'Donnell emphasized that "from where I sit" as a gay woman, the remark seemed homophobic. Ripa insisted, "I respect all people, regardless."

I can't imagine what Barbara Walters was thinking. The View doesn't even "feel" like the same show. Rosie runs it, and it's all about her. And it's not interesting or fun or anything else positive to watch. Meredith Veira was such a class act. I miss her and her calm, smooth disposition. Rosie's out of control, and she is ruining a good show.
As for me not being a minority, that is true...but all of my gay boyfriends thought Rosie was being ridiculous, and said they didn't want Clay Aiken clamping his germy hand on their faces either. I think the difference between Kelly doing it to Reeg and Clay doing it to Kelly is that Kelly and Regis have an established relationship...they have been working together on a daily basis for a long time, whereas Clay does not have that kind of relationship with Kelly that allows for that kind of familiarity. For example, I don't care if my gay boyfriends grab my boobs, but if a guy I barely know (celebrity or not) does it, that is not cool. Or if a friend puts their hand on my mouth, it wouldn't bother me that much (just a little though, cuz ew, germs), but if a random person I come into contact with occasionally at work does it...oh hells no.
Clay Aiken ... I don't care if he's gay or not ... it doesn't matter ... but I wouldn't want ANYONE's hand over my mouth ... not even my own granddaughters. My daughter was married to a man ... and he abused her ... she's now with a woman and as long as she's happy that's all that matters to me but she better not put her hand over my mouth either ... and not because she's living a gay lifestyle ... just out of common decency and respect. Clay has never said whether he's gay or not and I truly don't care one way or the other ... it's his life ... leave him alone.
Kelly Ripa ... I love her ... she's beautiful, smart, funny and has something Rosie will never have ... CLASS. Kelly dresses and acts like a lady ... which certainly can't be said about Rosie. I still miss her on All My Children (bring back Haley and Mateo). Ignore Rosie Kelly ... she's ignorant and has NO CLASS.
Now Rosie on the other hand irritates me to no end. I used to like her at the beginning of her show but then she got irritating and has been ever since. Why does everything have to be from "her perspective as a gay person"? She needs to quit trying to 'out' people ... wheather it's true or not it's not her place. Who gives a flying fig ... I refuse to even watch The View since she's been on ... not even once. Seems like she's trying to make it the 'New Rosie Show' ... what a joke. Sorry Barbara ... time for her to leave the show already ... listen to the viewers of The View ... replace Rosie before your show gets cancelled. Find someone that's not trying to promote their own sexuality the way she does. I refuse to watch The View as long as Rosie's on it. Why is she always trying to start trouble between gay people and straight people to promote and advertise her sexuality? Be gay ... don't be gay ... that's your choice and your business. Keep your nose out of other people's lives (such as Clay Aiken's). What he or anyone else does in their private lives is none of anyone's business but his. Clay has never said whether he's gay or not and I truly don't care one way or the other ... it's his life ... leave him alone. Okay ... enough ... I'm sick of people like Rosie but no matter who you are ... no matter what your sexuality ... no matter what God you pray to ... Happy Holidays and Have a Blessed Day.
