Autism Community Loses A Pioneer

The President of the Autism Society of America has sent an email out notifying the autism community that the Founder of the ASA and Autism Research Institute in San Diego, Dr. Bernard Rimland has passed away. He was known to many families as Bernie.

Dr. Bernard Rimland has an adult son on the spectrum. He has been a true pioneer in the field of autism.

Many years ago after getting the diagnosis for my now 11.5 year old high functioning son I called the Autism Research Institute to find out about vitamin supplements and spoke to Dr. Bernard Rimland. He was very friendly and helpful to me on the phone.

I read once that he also was a consultant on the movie set of Rain Man.

My son is being evaluated to see if he is on the spectrum. Do you follow the gluten free diet?

We do not follow a gfcf diet, but my one son drinks only soymilk. I personally went gluten free for two months to see if it would help my eczema, no such luck and it is quite expensive.
