A recent study showed that conservatives donate far more money than liberals to all sorts of charities.
The article about the study is here:

His main finding is quite startling, that the people who talk the most about caring actually fork over the least.

"To make his point forcefully, Brooks admits he cut out a lot of qualifying information."
The guy fooled with the data to reflect what he wanted it to, and admits it. I frankly expected more of you Don.
I used to have to collect for the united way at my facility, and I can tell you, that is the exact opposite of my experience. Conservatives always had some excuse. That's a generality, but generally, that was true.
Well, good for you, except faith based things have a religious agenda, usually, and I don't consider some of those pure charity, because they want something in return. I made the Christian Children Fund promise they wouldn't push religion on the kid or I wouldn't give. They probably do anyway, but I feel better, a little. Getting back to the UW. I knew those bums, and they weren't giving to anyone. Maybe it's different in your earning class.
Yes, it really kind of is.
And where did you get that idea. I have always heard that liberals were for government help for those that needed it, but I have never heard they don't consider it a duty to help their fellow man as much as anyone else on charity matters. Is this a neocon talking point I missed, because I thought I'd heard them all? I always thought they insisted on government help because they knew you folks were so tight you squeek when you walk.
In case you didn't realize it, this is an insult:
"It wouldn't surprise me in that the conservative viewpoint is for the individual to help and give to the less fortunate and it is the liberal view that the government should be the primary giver to the unfortunate."
I don't worry about the religious angle of my contributions because most of our money goes to things that do not involve cramming religion down people's throats. I am really not too keen on that myself. It won't be a total turn off if I think they are otherwise worthy but I do consider that when deciding where to give the money.
Funny Sandy, I am conservative and christian and more than half of my charitable giving doesn't get taken off our taxes. That is a pretty broad and unfair generalization. On the other hand, if it reduces someone's tax burden so they can give more, why is that a bad thing?
Ok, point taken, but I would imagine, knowing your profession, you eclipse my meager stipend by quite a bit. I think they should make it easier to deduct charitable contributions, as in everything should be deductible. It would sure help the charities. I think we probably agree on the religion thing then, because I picked CCF because of the ratio of dollars spent on charity and spent on administration, not really on religion.
I really am hell on charities that have too much money going to admin.
