The discussion around the 2006 elections was extraordinary. Nearly 30,000 people joined the conversation to talk about what turned out to be an historic result. Now it is time to look ahead. Gather is expanding its political coverage to a broader set of issues, and to do that we have renamed the group Politics on Gather and moved the URL to http://politics.gather.com. Make sure to update your bookmarks to continue to participate in discussions from diverse, individual political viewpoints.
Come to Politics on Gather to debate some of the most important issues that we will face in the coming weeks and months. For example, what will the lame duck Congressional session pass into law? What will new committee chairs do when they take their seats? Which presidential hopefuls for 2008 are forming their strategies, their exploratory committees, and evaluating their chances for jumping into the race?
To get the conversation started, we have planned some note-worthy, exclusive writers for you to interact with. Starting today, we will be featuring thought leaders from the national political scene, starting with Evan Bayh, Senator from Indiana. He kicks us off with his views on the election, and will be stopping back from time to time to respond to the comments he receives from you. We also have Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House, stopping by to answer your questions.
On a weekly basis, we will have a guest speaker on the site talking to you about their perspectives. They will be members of Congress, Governors, and political pundits who have strong views to debate. We will also continue to have nine Gather members – all of whom participated in the Election 2006 discussion, continue to post their views and comment on what is happening inside and outside the Beltway.
So welcome to Politics on Gather, at politics.gather.com, the central meeting point for political conversation on Gather. We look forward to hearing your viewpoints in the articles you write and the comments you make.
