Glasses that won't break?

Here is my dilema to which I really want your opinion on something.

3 of my children wear glasses. My 10 year old finally has stopped breaking his glasses, but now our 5 year old wears glasses and they are broke and being repaired more than she wears them.

What I want your help with is trying to buy a pair of glasses that wont break so easily. She really needs to be wearing her glasses and can barely see without them... So, we have the pair that our insurance has paid for, but I want to buy another pair that are not so breakable.

Please help me find that perfect pair.

I don't have any answers for this one. I would think that your eye doctor could help you with recommending non-breakable glasses.

When we were looking in LensCrafters and Sears Optical when my husband was getting price comparisons on new glasses, my son and I were browsing through the kids section (he doesn't need them, we were just browsing for browsing's sake). I recall seeing some signage advertising some better options for kids. (Maybe their website would have similar ads explaining it more as well). I didn't pay that much attention, as like I said, my guy doesn't need them, but from what I do remember, they were highlighting the kid-friendly nature of the frames and lenses.

I wish I could be more help. I know glasses are expensive, and costly to fix/replace -- for the prices, they should be indestructible. :)

I think you can ask at your optician's office. They do make very durable frames and lenses for children and athletes. Many opticians also offer insurance on their products so that if they are broken, you don't have to pay the full price to get another pair.

Also a note on Lenscrafters, I used them twice for my son's glasses and for my own. In both cases the lenses were not right. They never fixed them properly. They redid them but the lenses were never what they were supposed to be. I don't think I would ever go back to Lenscrafters. Their one hour service was completed in seven hours.

I think they make harder to break glasses for children, but they're expensive. No tips where to find them. Having my glasses always broken is the major reason I switched to contacts as a teen.
