I think Murtha would be too alienating a force if the democrats were to select him as majority leader. I doubt he would be selected, but who really knows. I doubt that Iran is an honest broker. I doubt Syria will be a helpful partner. Iran wants nuclear anhialation. Iran publicly wants Israel to be wiped off the map.
I don't think the senate can dictate the redeployment of troops. I think the senate is going too far in trying to redeploy our troops.

The only one who can decide about redeployment is the President. He can take "advice" from whomever he chooses, including Congress, the Baker Iraq study group, etc. but ultimately he decides.
Congress could cut funding for the military, but that is kind of a non-starter because the public would be outraged.
Back to the one-on-one talks abroad. We're going to go back to reasoning with the naughty children of the world now, and they will, in turn, take their rifles and missles to school and shoot more than a few infidels. Fireworks on the way.
The election last week concurred with polls that most people are not "pro" war. So it makes sense that the mandate of the people be considered by the people who represent us.
