This recipe was shared with me by a dear friend's Cuban grandmother when I lived in Miami Lakes.
2- 1/2 cups sugar
1- 1/2 cups water
1-1/2 teaspoons anise oil
l fifth 100 proof vodka
grenadine to color (optional)
Combine sugar and water in saucepan; bring to a boil and boil for 5 minutes.
Remove syrup from heat and stir in anise oil; cool thoroughly.
Add and stir in vodka and grenadine. Store in tightly covered bottle.
Yield: 5 1/2 cups.
This was very popular in Cuba to be served as an aperitif or during the "tea hour", at weddings, and special occassions.
