Rambunctious children,
all boys, except one,
running, romping, roaming
over the countryside.
exploring.
going past the neighbors'
pine tree boundary,
following the well marked path
to creek-side.
Breathing in the dank, woodsy smell,
testing the strength of grapevines,
creating our own games,
inventing, enjoying,
childhood pleasures,
when imagination flourished.
All attuned to mothers' call
for end of day inspection,
making sure all was well,
as we washed dirt smudges away.
She adorned a simple table,
announcing dinner.
a time when we all sit together,
eating,
and recounting the days' events.
