I was trying to change format on a photo today without switching computers and using my Mac. I don't really use my PC laptop for anything but playing games on pogo, or wandering around gather, but it's chilly in here and I didn't want to get out from under my quilt just quite yet!
So, off I go to the internet. It's got everything! I wanted it today so decided if I could find anything that looked like it's worth 2 cents for free. Free is always good, right? You've heard the old saying, "you get what you pay for." And with this attitude, I wandered around until I ended up at Tucows, my favorite place to browse around for free stuff, or trials of software that I might actually use and decide to buy! Occasionally this happens but more often than not, I go back to the Photoshop, Quark, InDesign, Illustrator or Freehand on the Mac.
Today just must be my lucky day, I ran across PhotoPlus with a 5 cow rating. (that's good by the way). So I read about it, and clicked download now which took me to the main page for their software. I not only found what I wanted to change photo formats and enhance color or add type or whatever I want to do, I also found a page layout program, a 3D program, a drawing program that even does vector, a web page program where you can design your pages and publish to the web and they're all FREE! That's right... FREE, registered versions that I can use forever! Once you've downloaded the software, you fill out the registration info and in your mail you now have the registration number to register this to you! No hassle, no gimmick, no nothing except a fully working version.
I said to myself, "This must be the scam of the century. Nobody's going to give me the software to do this free." So skeptical me, I kept waiting for them to hit me with... 30 day trial or a bunch of advertising to pop up every time I opened the programs. So far, none of this has happened. I still cannot believe my good fortune!
Now, you ask. Why is this woman babbling on and on about this?
I'm sure there are those of you out there that can benefit from these programs. I'm a professional graphic artist, so they're not Photoshop quality but if you really don't need to spend mega-bucks on software, these are perfect. Even if you just want to play around and if you're feeling like you have no clue how to use one, they all have free tutorials, help files, etc. If you have kids that want to learn how to do more than sit and play games, turn them loose. There's all kinds of things you can create with these programs and they work on everything from Win 95 thru XP. How much better than FREE can you get? So my friends... here's the link where you can go see for yourself.
I hope these come in as handy for some of you as they certainly will for me and my close friends that I emailed to let them know about this too. Now I can curl up under my quilt and play with 'em!
