Signs of Meth Addiction
The signs of meth addiction take a toll on the user both physically and emotionally. It works directly on the brain and spinal cord by interfering with normal neurotransmission. Neurotransmitters are chemical substances naturally produced within nerve cells used to communicate with each other and send messages to influence and regulate our thinking and all other systems throughout the body.
The main neurotransmitter affected by methamphetamine is dopamine. Dopamine is involved with our natural reward system. For example, feeling good about a job well done, getting pleasure from our family or social interactions, feeling content and that our lives are meaningful and count for something, all rely on dopamine transmission.
The signs of meth addiction include more than the destruction of a person's ability to experience pleasure naturally. Chronic use can create a tolerance for the drug, leading a person to try to intensify the desired effects by taking increasingly higher doses, taking it more frequently or changing their method of getting high.
To support their habit, Meth users often participate in spur-of-the-moment crimes such as burglaries. Several signs of meth addiction include feelings of agitation and feeling wired. Addict's behavior becomes unpredictable from moment to moment. They may start doing the same thing over and over, like taking apart and reassembling bits of machinery, or continuously picking at imaginary bugs under their skin.
Meth is referred to by many names including "meth," "speed .. crank," "chalk,"- "go-fast," "zip," and "cristy." Pure methamphetamine hydrochloride, the smokeable form of the drug, is called "L.A." or - because of its clear, chunky crystals which resemble frozen water - "ice," "crystal," 64glass," or "quartz."

The short term effects can ruin someone's life.
Use of this drug is so wide spread it isn't funny.
Educate the children in your lives when they are old enough.
Use of this drug has to stop now.
Personally, I can testify, without a doubt, that there is an unbelievable section of society(soccer moms, doctors, lawyers, and many, many people working blue collar)who are closet crankers. Some even have been able to hide it from their friends and family (and spouses)for years. After years of use, a person either dies or endsup in jail-true. Or, a person learns how to eat, sleep, and be merry. Wake up..or, better yet....go back to sleep, look the other way and feel so much better than us. P.S. If I had a choice, I wouldn't have ever tried it. That's not reality, though.

James M,
Just because you have been doing it for 25 years does not mean you cannot stop. You would probably have to take anti-depressants YES. From what I have found in my research, it has not been proven to halt dopamine production long term YET. But that was what I last read, Have you any new information to refer me to?? Seriously I would welcome it. I work with addicts weekly.
I don't think it's an outrage....nope, not even close.
I think I am tired of seeing people screwed up, tired of seeing people's lives ruined and tired of seeing children abandoned because of a CHOICE to stop or start this dangerous drug.
You are 100% correct on the closet crankers thing. Sadly, it's everywhere. Not only blue collar either.
Yes, there are drug addictions everywhere of all different types. Pills , alcohol and many other forms of serious addictions.
I have seen many quit Meth LONG TERM after YEARS of use. It can happen.
Yes, it would not be easy at first. It can be done. Don't give up hope. If you have the desire, you are able.
I also know someone who died from the damage this drug did to their internal organs. It's no joke & it needs to be stopped. It's poison.

Oh and you know the transformers that are on the top of the telephone poles? Old skool meth manufacturers shoot holes in them and get the alkalide stuff from the inside. Anyone who would put that stuff in their body is crazy as hell and in some ways I feel no sympathy for them.
James,
No excuses.
If you know how bad meth is for you. Why not stop now and halt the damage?
Its not hopeless.
If your body produced no dopamine you couldnt make it to get more meth. When you are ready to face the challenge, I hope some of your dopamine receptors are still left.
I dont wish this addiction on anyone. I dont knock the fact it is very hard for an addict to stop. While your still alive man, do something, stop, make a move. If you care about anyone in this world, stop for them if you cant stop for yourself.
Peace.
Chris
Why are we such an addictive society?
Debra,
This drug has been around for some time in one form or another. Hilter actually took a form a speed and encouraged its use in his Nazi troops.(Sick)
I think the form this drug has taken for the last 25-20 years now is its most dangerous and destructive.
I think addiction to anything depends on the type of person.
I could never be addicted to anything.
No matter how "good" something would make me feel initially. I like to be in control of my actions. It's just too dangerous to do many drugs out there today.
My father died of a heart attack at age 35, due to use of cocaine. Heart failure runs in the family so he would have been at risk later in life. But to have someone you love, at the young age of 35 years old.......Let's just say the loss effected my views on illegal drugs. I decided to do something good with my knowledge on just how dangerous drugs can be. If I can stop one person from trying this drug I will have made a difference.
Thanks for reading & posting everyone.
You are so right about this.
Kim M,
I posted this article because I do understand. I have seen both addiction and recovery in my own family and one of my friends. Not to mention the many addicts I have worked with.
Thanks for posting.
I have seen it as well - and lived it. I thank god, have never tried meth - but coke was a good friend of mine and my husbands, along with booze. We have tried to stop smoking butts too many times to count, and have failed. I have seen what this has done to friends and my family, I have a long story and not much time right now, but I will post it soon, I think its time to get it out there, and hopefully move on or atleast grow a little more!
