The Republicans certainly were not the losers, though they did lose big and deservedly so. Who were the losers? We were of course. We always are.
The elephants were run out of the pasture because they forgot who they are. They cut taxes which was the proper move, bringing billions more into the treasurer, but the spent the money and grew government like drunken Democrats. Good riddance.
The war in Iraq: we were right to step onto the world stage again, but only if we were going to be serious. Wasn't a half-hearted, no quarter-hearted, attempt sufficient in Vietnam? Why throw our soldiers lives away if we don't want to win. You need twice as many men and women involved as we have now. If we can't recruit enough, or draft enough, hire them somewhere else.
We obviously need a much larger military then at present, because there is a lot more to do, say Korea? Darfur? Syria? Lebanon? That list is going to get longer and we can't run and hide like the Dems want to. We are the big kid on the block and we can't let the bullies run amok.
Speaking of the Democrats, they did not win, the Republicans lost. If the Reps lost because they forgot who they, do not forgot for a minute the asses (word for donkeys) forgot who they are. They are basically run by the lunatic left: Pelosi, Dean, Clinton, and so on.
Additionally, the lunatic right has so much control over the Republicans that liberals like Bush only have to say "Praise Jesus" and they get their votes.
So we are the big losers. We go from having liberal weak-kneed Republicans running the show to liberal soft-headed Democrats running it.
Since I'm certainly not a crazy right-wing kind of guy, I can honestly say," God help us!"

And in the 'glad you lost' column: war profiteers lost, Republican special interests lost, no bid contracts lost... can we get back some of the billions we lost in Iraq? This is why the Republicans lost in case they haven't figured it out yet.
Terrorists win. Insurgents win. Liberals win.
And don't forget, you lost!
Our children will have to pay in every way, financially and in safety.
The worst part is at this time we have no viable alternatives. Thirds parties, etc.
Keep the faith. We have to work harder.
My biggest complaint with the moslem "moderates" is that they have been contacted at every level including government and private sector, and still refuse to get involved. You are right they are the key to this whole mess, and they don't want to act.
Btw, the republicans are sore losermen. You lost. Get over it. America has soundly rejected your radicalism, your corruption, your hatred and intolerance, your fascism, your theocracy, your greed, your lack of moral values and principles, your disgust for the constitution and American ideals, your utter incompetence, your inability to provide any level of national security, your fiscal irresponsibility, and your arrogant abuse of power. Good riddance. It's time for the adults to take over.
You lost too. You just don't know it yet.
I lost because fiscal responsibility, national security, restoration of oversight and accountability, an end to insanity and incompentence in power, and end to the culture of corruption reign of terror, etc. are about to restore the world's faith in democracy and in the US? I would hardly call that a "loss." In fact, as the elections have indicated, the majority consider that a "gain."
That all depends, dude. We have the power of the soupena, and with that, a whole lot of Republican dirty laundery is going to be coming out over the next two years. The public is going to get their first look at oversight, and I think it's going to hurt Republicans, not help them for 08. At the same time, if reasonable governance is the result, it can't help but bode well for Dems.
Look closely at the positions exposed by most of those Democrats who were elected. They represent a new direction from the ultra liberal past. And while they may suggest that they would not have supported invading Iraq, they recognize that we are in this war and must excercise a new strategy to see it to it's conclusion. For some of them, current opposition lies only in the argument that Rumsfeld's strategy does not afford enough tactical troops deployed to do the job and that there was a great lack of oversight in funds expended in the effort.
The election is over, the people have spoken, now is the time to unite behind those who come closest to your own ideology, disregarding party labels. Share your support and influence to help them overcome any extremist elements. Let them know. Politicians are always looking forward to their next election and if they feel that they can never win your vote, they will disregard your desires.
If you read my original article you would see that I actually agree with you on fiscal responsibility, and I am thorgouhly pissed. Yes I am in the Republican party, by default, as there is no viable alternative. I should probably be a Libertarian but that is a waste of time. I was a Democrat for over 9 nines and is a memory too hideous to recall very often. And I do vote, and I would vote for and have voted for a democrat, and recently, and I would have voted for Joe Lieberman for any office.
The culture of corruption you speak of is thoroughly entrenched on both sides of the aisle. I am sure you aware of that. As long as government, especially the feds are involved in our lives so deeply, it will be so.
There is no gain for democracy when you have the same old hacks back, even if they have different faces.
You will suffer as we all will, and so will our children. You still have my best wishes.
I agree, and I hope they get them all, on both sides of the aisle. I understand the FBI is doing just that. I certainly don't trust Congress to police themselves, do you?
Daniel,
I am a Goldwater conservative which makes me a Fiscal conservative and a Social Liberal.
I will unite behind anyone who wants to do the right thing: basically, government is there only to protect our behinds. We have to do the rest.
Until the public rises up and demands change, it will be the same old same old.
We have to go back to, the only purpose of the federal government is to protect us. Then we only have to fight the military-industrial complex and that is tough enough.
This would go a long way toward that goal.

I am always open to suggestions unless they violate the Constitution or my sense of logic.
It is the same with terms limits. We the people have to limit their terms. How do we get everyone aware? I don't know. The public seems to be more aware today than ever before, but it is hard to count on them when they have no idea where the Missisiippi river is, or that Washington, DC is the nation's capital.
Clark, you're mistaken, the Democrats didn't SOUNDLY win. The people didn't turn their backs on those terrible Republicans and support those amazing Democrats, there was a slight shift in the middle. The Republicans narrowly won last time, and the Democrats narrowly one this time. The only loud & clear message from that is that the people are conflicted and generally dislike ALL politicians.
Ron, amen to that! The people DO need to speak up, but unfortunately for all of us, the great, uneducated generation of apathy is rolling in, and will unwittingly create a larger and larger class gap. Money is the only language heard in our governement regardless of who's there.
