At this point the political demise of both Santorum and DeWine is being projected.
Santorum is evidently on his way to losing to popular state treasurer Bob Casey, Jr., described as a new brand of Democrat. He is pro-life.
DeWine was apparently hurt by the unpopularity of Governor Bob Taft, who is in the process of also losing big.
These results represent two of the six seats the Democrats need to pick up in the Senate to retake control.
Historically, no party has taken over the House from the other party without also taking the Senate.
In early returns, Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island is running behind the Democratic challenger, but the race is too early to call. However, the exit polls, for whatever value they may have, show Chafee losing 55%-45%.
In what may be another surprise, Lieberman is behind Lamont 48%-39%, but that Connecticutt race which does not have great significance for the Democrats, is also way to early to call. It is of interest, however, that the Lieberman campaign has received reports from many voters who said they couldn't find his name on the ballot.
My son, who voted in Connecticutt this morning, told me that Lieberman's name was, indeed, very difficult to find, being at the bottom of a page under several political parties that did not have candidates.

Mainly because all elections are controlled by each individual state.
