Today, as many of you know was voting day for many states. Our areas voting booths were located this year at a elementary school. The traffic was ghastly this morning trying to get your own child in the little lane for drop-off.
I was sitting there waiting for the school attendents to give the sound of O.K! to release our children out. Then, it just struck me. My kids had been curious as to why all the traffic and people there.
Taking you back into a small ten minute converation with my daughter; She asked why there were so many people and signs at the school. I began to tell her that it was election day for our city. Many politicians gather at designated polling areas to greet people just like us before we get to have say in whether or not they are chosen.
Funny thing was she told me in a funny way did the kids get to vote too. I laughed and had to wait a moment before I said anything back. It was just the mere expression on her face. But, I told her just like at her school where she got to vote for class president or vice president, that this was sort-of the same thing. Where we the people cast our ballots, and decide who will take a certain position just like her school.
I must say when you sit there and see so many people almost jumping from there car to give their say; Is quite astonishing. I mean when you see massive amounts of people deciding the fate of one single politician's future. You have to be amazed at the power we do hold. Even if at a later date you may be upset about ceratin things they do once in office.
So, in the ending to this all, my daughter was excited that they chose her school to hold the ballots being cast. And, I really hope after she sees this that she will one day look back, and know just how lucky we all are sometimes. We could be in places where our words are dust in the wind. But, here at least 'for now' we all have our say. But, I hope everyone chooses wisely because once we elect a certain person in office, they are there for the single term given.
Ironically, the voting went well today, and there was not even one incident. Maybe, being at a elementary school kept some of them calm. Who knows.
