I am shamed by the crass surrender of political self-interest to corporate prostitution. The political atmosphere reeks of prostitution and idolatry. Political mendacity is shameless. The religious right of all stripes clamors to make itself available for purchase. Earth, life and life's resources are nothing more than commodities for corporate/political profit.
My conscience is outraged. The gross waste of money and self-respect is an astounding and senseless spectacle this election cycle. I'm fed up with both parties! The rank pride (imperialism!) of both parties and the religious right expose the real god they are worshipping. They stand as antithetical to the Trinity of my upbringing. In the future, neither party can take my vote for granted; I'm ashamed to be identified with either.

One aspect of Church hurt in Roman Catholicism, for example, results from Pope John Paul II's uncompromising fixation against Communism. He exercised his "preferential option" in appointing bishops worldwide who were (are) opposed to both Communism and Liberation Theology, because of the accommodation developed in South and Central America by bishops and priests to the context of Communism there. The Episcopal types preferred by JPII were (are) Vatican I authoritarian types. As a result, the ecclesiology and theology of Vatican II now suffers a set-back because of the preferential appointment of Vatican I Episcopal types (in my opinion).
Politically and theologically, the Church institution and the faithful are hurting from recidivism to old fixations. More discretion and less bias in Episcopal appointments may remedy this problem. Let's pray that Pope Benedict has an eye for balance: "conciliarism" (Episcopal consensus) is a deception when the Episcopal types are all "peas in a pod".
