I'm awake right now because I can't sleep. Simple enough reason, huh? I have a newborn son (well, he's 3 months old now) and he wakes up every 2 hours, a SNORING husband who has restless legs syndrome, a 9 year old who sleep walks and a 5 year old who has night terrors. SO, sometimes it's honestly just easier to NOT sleep. Right when I start to fall asleep, at least one of the boys or the man in the house wakes up causing me to wake right back up.
This leads me to my burning question: What is YOUR normal bedtime and why can't YOU sleep?

For your husband, well, I have one of those too, and I guess I pretty much got used to it, but if he wakes me up snoring, I just give him a good shove to try to roll him over and hope it works.
'Course, once a night owl, always a night owl.
Weekends usually 1.30 or 2 am. I don't usually fall asleep when my head hits the pillow. The past 2 nights I have slept very well because I had to take 2 benadryl at bedtime for itching.
Julie: That is so great that Chris calls you when he wakes up - that must be so nice to still be able to hear his voice every day. I'm sorry you got some stink over the pics that you posted that he took! I'm the SAME way with not being able to turn my brain off. I think it's a woman thing.
Sandra L: Yes... you're right: sleeping from 10:30-5:00 would be plenty of sleep if it weren't for your bodily functions keeping you awake. I don't suppose a catheder would be an option?
Ginger M: Nope... you're not the only person who lays in bed for hours and hours on end. One thought leading to another to another to another. Oh gosh... sometimes I dread laying down. That's when it all starts....
Adele: I am so jealous that your children are grown and you can finally SLEEP. Not that I want my kids to grow up too fast, but come on... let a girl sleep every once in a while!
Paula J: That is GREAT that you've been able to fall asleep and actually STAY asleep for the past few nights. I hope you continue to do that! Can you send the sleep fairy MY way though?
M N: How long have you had insomnia? Is there anything out there that can help you?
Tab B: thank you VERY much for the tips, I will try them and hope they help!
Alicia: congrats on your baby, but I am VERY sorry about the colic. My 1st two boys both had colic and I thought I was going to go out of my mind. I now know why they use sleep deprivation for torture. I hope it passes soon. I didn't have any "instant cures" for colic with them, but with this baby... one of my good friends gave me "Gripe Water" and I now swear by it. Any time his tummy would start to get hard and I could tell he was gassy or was just not feeling well, I'd give him a little of it and he would feel better in about 5-10 minutes. It makes hiccups go away instantly too!
Stephanie G: So, you're a Gather addict too, huh? It's amazing how many people just love this site! I am always trying to tell people about it and I think they think I'm being paid to talk about it or something.
My husband tries to go to bed early (10pm) on weekdays because he gets up between 4:30am-5:00am so he can go eat breakfast and beat the Atlanta traffic...
