Question about car insurance?

I have heard both ways about Geico. Check with State Farn or Farm Bureau or someone and just see what they quote. This will give you some idea.

Ok, will do, it's not due to be renewed yet. I'm so sick of the stupid insurance going up, up, up, when we have great driving records and the car keeps getting older! Ugh.

Progressive was way cheaper than Geiko or any of the others when I went looking. In MD Geiko was twice as much. Before your policy comes due, I'd check out every insurance company I could find and get written rate estimates. Progressive, you can get online quote so if you have current policy just plug in the same #'s so you can compare. I got sick of mine going up every year too, even tho I've never had an accident or ticket in my life.

It depends on where you live, in my area Geico was more. I have Allstate for our home and cars. I have had them for along time. We have Progressive for my husband's motorcycle.

My brother-in-law has Geico and was in an accident over two months ago with antoher driver that also has Geico. He has not received one penny yet from them for damage to the car. He also was badly injured and has not received much help on that end either. He's not the first person that has told me how badly they handle claims. Sometimes you get what you pay for, so lower rates can mean lower standards of service. Hopefully you'd never need to file a claim, but it's good to check out with your states Department of Banking & Insurance to see what type of complaints are on record for the company. Before switching, I'd also check with your company to see if you've earned some type of accident-free discount that could wave the charge for an accident if you should have one down the road. Some companies give you a basic discount the longer you've been with them so that if you do have an accident, it won't affect the rates in the same way as if you just started with a new company.

One good way to check Marilyn, would be too go to your state gov site. Look them up and check the other links. Many times you will find out if there are complaints against them. If there are too many, you might change your mind.

There is a guy that must live close to me on the war-path with Progressive. He has a trailer for his truck and is towing around a smashed up car. On the side he has a big sign saying Don't buy Progressive: still waiting for my check, and the date of the crash. I can't remember the date, but it seemed to me it was a few months ago. It's sad, but also funny at the same time.
Our insurance is out of sight because we now have two of our kids under 25 on our policy, and a third itching to get his license..........HELP! Just shoot me..........;-)

Sometimes the cars performance during safety testing causes the rate to go up. I once got a quote for a Honda Passport and because of it's performance during saftey test the insurance for me and no one else would have been 289 a month, needless to say I didn't make the purchase. Ask your insurance provider why the insurance premium goes up at renewal time. Shop around.

I have Geico and and was in an accident last May. They were awesome. I'm in AZ so everything is cheaper here so I get a great deal. I have been with them for 5 years now aqnd have no complaints. Good luck!

Geico is short for "Government Insurance Company". I'm so disgusted with this war in Iraq that I REFUSE to give them a dime more than I absolutely have to. (The government already gets plenty from me in taxes). I live in Arizona, just as Amanda does, but even if Geico is cheaper here, I'd rather pay a bit more to go with a different company.

Insurance is such a scam. Threaten to leave the insurance company and then the retention guy can lower your costs. However, I think you need to do this directly. Your insurance shouldn't keep going up with no accidents. Something is wrong there. Too bad you can't use USAA. They are the cheapest on earth, but only available to Military Officers, their families and I think Warrant Officers. But even they raised our insurance for varied reasons and said they could go no lower - until we got serious about leaving them. Then, they dropped it way down. Go figure...

GEICO, by the way, is now a private company and not government insurance. You must do your homework. Do you really think the Government could run an insurance company? LOL

And finally, for those getting stiffed on claims for recovery of damages and medical issues - get an attorney. It slows the process but also guarantees a better result. Sad but true testimoney of our world today. (I work in this field)

I have GEICO, but have never (knock wood) had to file a claim, so I can't give any opinion on that.
How old are you? If you are old enough to join AARP (50, I think) they have discounted auto policies available to members. A friend who switched from GEICO to the AARP carrier (and who also has never had to file a claim) told me she got more coverage for considerably less money.

Insurance is so expensive. We get numerous discounts from our company but it is still expensive. I have threatened to change companys but found that ours has one of the quickest payouts in case of wreck. When you are in a wreck, the last thing you need is to worry about how you are going to get to work the next day. We found out that their are alot of things to consider when choosing a company besides the rate.

We had Geico when we were in the service and the rates were great. They also paid quickly when I got a tank full of water instead of gas. They can be higher if you are not in the military. We have Nationwide now and the price we pay is ok and they were very helpful when I had 2 different drivers smash into me.
When you check for insurance, don't forget to check what discounts they will offer you.

We are going to go through AAA.. they are doing our house insurance so we get a discount plus many other discounts.... We have done claims with them on our house and had no problems whatsoever... AAA that is...

our car insurance is through Lifco and it never goes up, knock on wood. Now the house insurance goes up about 100 bucks every year, don't ask why, we don't make claims and this house is almost 52 years old.

See if you can get discounts based on your good driving records or if they have any other discounts. I get a discount for maintaining a "good student" gpa.

We use Progressive and they have been great!

Someone from out of state (NY) rear ended us at Best Buy (Ohio). You know how hard it is to get anything from someone out of state. And, this woman was an elderly nurse who had been in three accidents in the last six months. So, her insurance agent was not budging. Progressive was so helpful.

Thankfully, I'm a paralegal by trade (and education). So, I knew what to tell the guy. Finally, when I told him he had to abide by the long arm statues of the state of ohio and that I wasn't going to put up with his excuses one more day...he settled it. And, paid for all damages.

Sometimes crazy things cause it to go up. We had our goes up when we moved. I know that we get a discount for owning a home (had to fax copy of deed). We also get one for good grades. I got mine for the past two years for maintaining a 4.0 and hubby is getting it now. I think you have to maintain at least a 3.6. Good if your son is on your insurance - as my brother gets a similar one through Allstate.

Car Insurance is such a rip-off! It's a law that we have to have it and I understand the need for it, but I can't believe what we pay for it.
