Do you want to improve the effectiveness of your Gather Mail Messages?
...and increase the chances of other members reading them, and responding?
One way of accomplishing this is to eliminate the display of long distribution lists from your outgoing messages. If members do not have to scroll down to read the body of your message, then they may be more receptive to your information, or request.
Note: many members dismiss these messages as 'mass mailings', and delete them immediately without reading.
Here's how to achieve the above:
If you are addressing a message to multiple recipients, especially a long list, you may address your message in one of two ways.
On the Gather 'Compose a Message' screen, enter either of the following within the 'To' field:
1) The word mailinglist (not case sensitive).
or
2) Your membername.
Then, enter the membernames of all recipients into the BCC: entry box. This will eliminate the display of these recipients from your outgoing message.
The membername mailinglist has been secured by Gather specifically for this purpose. Member's receiving a message addressed to this membername will see the sole recipient as 'My Mailing List', with no additional members listed.
Addressing the message to yourself (option #2 above), will also achieve the same display result, although with yourself as the sender, and recipient.
It is not advisable to address your mail message to only one of your intended recipients (in the To: entry box), while listing the remaining recipients within the BCC: entry box. This can lead to confusion for the other recipients, as it appears they are receiving a message addressed to someone else.

This article is part of a series which I wrote several months ago pertaining to Gather Mail. I am working on updating all of my older tutorials before embarking on newer material.

Have a great night now.

Good information!
What I want to learn is how to put cute pictures in comments. I do comment quite a lot and think adding pictures perks them up.
Thanks,
