My plant to quit smoking

I  just wanted to let everyone know that my quit date is set for this saturday.  I am planning on using the new Nicorette Gum to help me quit.  I have tried the patch and they make me break out in hives, so I cannot use them anymore.  I don't have the money to see a physician (no insurance) to get the Zyban.  So, here I go.

My quit date is set for Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006.  I just really want all of you to know this so that if I start ranting on people or even post weird stuff, please forgive me.  It will be difficult for me to quit, but I am going to give it an honest try.

Why do you ask why I want to quit.  Smoking smells,  it even makes my breath smell bad.  I am tired of being dependent upon something and not having control over things when I need more nicotine.  The cost is way to expensive and I would rather buy other stuff than smokes.  It just is all around bad for me and my body.

Another thing that has given me the opportunity to have a good reason, is that Nicorette is having a million dollar contest for those trying to quit and using a specific product.  I heard about it as a Bzz Agent, so I am going to be Bzzing this product.  Here is the link if you would like to join.  I do not get points for you joining, but you get your life back.  Fruit Chill Million Contest

I'm going to be putting you and all the other quitters on the prayer chain at church, Trish--I just want you to know! Before the weekend gets here, please look into diabetic diets--followed carefully, these help keep the blood sugar balanced, and may help keep your chemistry in better state and give you a better shot at success.

Best of luck. I wish they had it in a different form than gum. I can't chew gum because it sticks to my dental work. Let us know how you make out.

Thank you all... and BTW.. I dont have a plant to quit smoking.. it is a plan to quit smoking....lol I will do my best in trying to quit and I will look into the diabetic eating plan... due to the fact that my sugar levels are already out of control, I know I am diabetic, or prediabetic, but I dont have the funds to go to the doc and get all the testing needed.

Actually it might not be a bad idea to have a plant to quit smoking! I think that's rather charming, since smoke's bad for plants too. I need some new plants, and just might get a "quit smoking" plant. I'll make Saturday my quit smoking day, too, and we can suffer together. I have an appointment to see a lung specialist on the 10th, and it would be a good idea not to go there reeking of smoke! I have some patches and may use them for a couple of days, then go cold turkey, which is ultimately the only thing that works anyway.

How do you know that your sugar levels are out of control? Diabetes is nothing to fool around with!

I do random testing.. I do have a tester here at home .. with my last child my sugar levels were out of control, but not enough to officially say DIABETES.... but my baby came out 10lbs 2 oz... and he was 2 weeks early... baby before that was 10.. 7.... and 9 days early.... family history.. native american indian... and i know it is nothing to mess with.. I am trying to learn as much as I can and to try and get into the routine of lower carbs in all our diets...

It's not just a matter of lowering carbs--it's a matter of balancing the carbs and the protein. The rule of thumb they gave me (I was a gestational diabetic) was 2 grams of carbs for every gram of protein, with three regular meals and 2 snacks a day. That should get you started, Trish. :)

I wish you the best of luck, I personally do not smoke- but I have had relatives who did. My mother -in-law did and now has trouble breathing, so I really wish you the best.

Good luck, Trish! I am a veteran at quitting smoking. Just have always had a problem staying quit. Once I was clean for 7 years. And started again. I've been away from cigarettes for 2 years, now, but picked up the habit of little cigars with my husband when I have a drink. Gave that up recently, too. Luck to all of us!

I have no experience in quiting smoking. I have never smoked. But besides my wife, everyone around me smokes. Both of my parents smoked growing up, and still do. I do know it will take much determination. The one thing that keeps me driving on something is my children. I think it is unfair to children to have parents that smoke in the house or in the car around them. That is all the bad stuff in the air. Not saying you do around them, but I know some do. Just keep the kids in mind, it will hopefully eat at you, and help you to quit successfully. And you are going to have to replace smoking with something else. The gum will help the cravings, but you need to find something else to do to fill the time slot.

I stopped smoking a while back, but I recently picked up the nasty habit again. I go visit my doctor Monday (thank goodness, cause I need my medicine) and I am going to quit on that day. That way, I will have my meds to comfort me. I'll keep checking on you. Good luck!
I'll be pulling for you. I never smoked (cigerettes that is), but my mom did. She smoked for 25 years, had tripple bypass surgery, and kept smoking against her doctors advice. 10 years latter, she was in the hospital again. She made up her mind to quit and did something she had never done, when she tried before. She threw away a full pack that night. She died the next morning, in the hospital.

" I think it is unfair to children to have parents that smoke in the house or in the car around them. " and it should be criminal. Young kids are most at risk for second hand smoke. Their young lungs can not handle this. It scars the for life. It's ironic that the government is trying to "protect us" from the evils of marijuana, but a cop will not stop someone that is smoking, with their windows up, and an infant in the back seat.

Oh, I really hope you succeed! You will be so happy and proud of yourself when you do. Since you are taking something away from your life you should add something to take its place. Take care of yourself and best wishes!

Well, Today is the day i started.. its sunday.. i am out of smokes, but i have chewing gum and nicorette.. I have a few patches too, but im allergic to the patches.. within hours, the spot where the patch is completely welts up and takes at least 2 weeks to completely go away... But, I am giving it a shot.. I am gonna quit.. I want a new house and need to save money to get it... quitting smoking will give me a big start in saving money....
