I saw your death mask

in the window.

 

It caught me by surprise

even though

it was the Hallows Eve.

 

I did not have my electronic eye

so today,

Dia de los Muertos

I stole your soul indigenous

and when I walked away

in the hour old dawn,

sun streaming,

 

I wondered how you

came to be so far

from remembrance.

I have no idea. It's literally sitting in an antique shop window on W 7th St. here in Saint Paul. I am curious to find out where it came from.
