A month ago I joined gather as a favor to a friend. I gave her quick feedback and then forgot about the site. Last week when I got an email from SmartBargains about the "Room for Improvement" contest, I figured I'd take a shot, and submitted my essay, "Save Thomas And Friends". In a quest to determine my standing in the contest, I spent some time trying to navigate through the features and functions of this site. Much to my excitement I've found that my Thomas essay still comes up first on "Community Picks" in the "room for improvement contest", but even more exciting,I'm getting lots of POINTS!
Yes, putting "points" in front of me is like putting a whiskey bottle in front of an alcoholic. I become obsessed! What is generating those points? Is it the number of connections I make, the number of people that read what I write, the number of responses I get, the number of articles I publish, the number of invitees that join or the number of dates I get for Andy? I'm sure it's a combination of many of those, but what is the strategy? As with any game, strategy is crucial!
It seems a key is to increase our readership! Somehow we must get people to want to pick OUR stuff out of the thousands of other articles published each day. My guess is that a lot more people will read and respond to a simple question than a well-written essay. There just simply isn't time to read all the witty writings when there are points to be gathered!
I could spend much more time articulating insights and speculations on point-gathering, but then this would get too long, and we're all busy here trying to get points. So, let's just cut to the chase: Rate me a 10, respond to this post, connect with me, join my groups! I'll do the same for you. Keep track of postings, responses, new connections, and number of dates Andy has gotten. We'll meet back tomorrow...same time, same place, and compare notes and see if we can get this system figured out! Ready, Set, Go!
What is the point of this article? I wish I knew! But if you respond, you will score points, at least with me!

Well the realisation has dawned on wee bit late. Well it's always better later then never.
