Halloween or Pumpkin Day?

I know there has been alot of attention on changing the name of holidays due to the fact that you might  just  offend someone....

It just hit me that we are no longer celebrating Halloween ... We are celebrating Pumpking Day.  My 5 year who is in Kindergarden keeps asking me when Pumpkin Day was?.... I said you mean Halloween and she looked at me like I was stupid.

So, if this new trend is Pumpkin Day then why do we still wear costumes  adn the like?... just curious... No , I dont want to go changing the holiday.. .just speculating...

geeze that is both funny & sad, as it shows yet again we are changing all we believe in to satisfy a few who do not like halloween, I wonder what is next?

I hope we aren't changing this holiday too. I remember when my kids had to drop the Halloween parties at school and have a Fall Festival Day instead.

We have crossed into the ludicrous and this was illustrated by the principal at some school who told kids they couldn't dress up as Captian Underpants (I think it was a NY highschool). Seems a couple of kids tried it and it involved wearing briefs over a pair of tights. The principal banned CU costumes and made a new rule that there were to be no skivvies in the hallway. Personally, my concern would be the boys wearing tights but to each his own. I mean, let's get real - it isn't like anything was hanging out and given that they were wearing tights, nothing could hang out. That's a far cry better than these pants that sit around the crotch.

I guess it takes all kinds.

Pumpkin Day? Why not Broomstick Day or Trick or Treat Day? Good grief.

Devil woman.. you said it all ... thank you.... and I thank the rest of you for commenting too.... its like geesh lets either have holidays or not.. quit changing their names.. .. changing their names does not give it a new meaning.. just a new name.. geesh...

Kristina .. I agree.. pumpkin day makes me think of thanksgiving..

Since it's pumpkin day... if you're carving pumpkins you might want to roast the seeds. They're delicious and it's REAL easy to do.
Instructions: dig the seeds out of your pumpkin, rinse them off, melt about 2 tablespoons of butter and pour over the seeds in a mixing bowl. Salt to taste... light or heavy, you decide. Spread the seeds in a single on a cookie sheet and put in oven on low heat (between 250 & 300 degrees). Roast them for about 20 minutes, take a spatula or spoon, mix 'em around and let roast til they're crunchy. (approximate time is 45 minutes in a gas oven).. They will look dry when they're done and be crunchy. Great snack for Halloween!
If you put them in a jar with a sealed lid, they'll last a couple weeks (but they probably won't be around that long). Happy Halloween! Now... go carve those pumpkins!

this is crazy changing the name of the holidays. it won't be tradition anymore if we change things now. people just can't leave well enough alone.

I don't like it either. I feel like I am being squeezed into a mold that doesn't fit! I had such a good time going trick or treating as a kid. My children had a ball and I was hoping my grandchildren could too!

But I like Halloween....don't "they" realize that pumpkins received their special Halloween status because of Celtic beliefs?? Maybe we should change New Years Day because we hate the thought of another year, or maybe Veteran's Day because we oppose war, or Labor Day or the Fourth of July? What's next.....no Valentine's Day because we might offend someone with no love interest. We could just call it Heart day.

The part that I have not figured out, is WHO is offended by the name Halloween or WHY it would be offensive to anyone.

Kristina G.: ... Halloween is offensive to some Christians that are very strong in their beliefs. Halloween symbolizes witches and goblins and the such... which in turn symbolizes Satin. A very strong christian believer does not believe in giving positive attention to Satan. As in the term Devil's night for the night before Haloween... I don't see it as symbolizing that myself, therefore I am not agains Halloween... But what I tried to convey here is that by changing the name of the holiday does not change its meaning or what it represents.

I just posted an article about this today. That's so sad that they have reduced such a fun holiday where everyone can laugh and have a good time.
