we were up early yesterday. the sun was just rising over the trees, mist was drifting across the lake...obscuring the shadows on the water.

a heron swooped away, while a seagull circled many times before settling atop the water.

the sun made a growing path across the frost-touched leaves and grass, bathing nature in a golden glow, illuminating the life within.

the tiny tendrils of frost quickly melted, leaving leaves and grass slightly damp. oh, glorious morning!

Jessie, this is simply gorgeous! What a beautiful photo essay. I felt like I could walk across the leaves and hear them crunch and feel them slip from the ice hanging on them. The lake is so pretty. It's days like these that I start missing Michigan.

thank you, everyone! that last picture is what you see from our sunporch (where we eat all the time, in nice weather). note the turned over wheelbarrow, tired from hauling too many leaves (and no end in sight!)....joanne - i'm smack dab in the middle of MI. crazy, eh? i grew up over on the west coast. yes, i think it is the best part of mi!!

thank you, everyone! the first bird was a great blue heron - it was way across the lake. the 2nd bird was a seagull! we have lots of them here. but only 2 herons. 2 swans, a zillion geese. a kingfisher close by to our house...some of those black ducks that are tiny...hmm, what other birds? anyway, thank you!
