How do you copy paste from word without the gibberish?

try a different font when you write it and use a larger size...some fonts leave "odd" gibberish when transferred from "word"...sorry I can't be more help, I'm still learning the ropes here myself!

The only time that happened is when I had a table or something besides straight font in the document. I do see that alot but I haven't figured out what causes it. Sorry!

Here are a few things you can try...

1) Use WordPad instead of MSWord (if you are also using Internet Explorer, this combination will also allow you to change the color of your text).

or

2) In MSWord, use 'basic' fonts, like Verdana, or Arial.

3) When ready to copy from MSWord, select your desired text, and perform a replace all (F5). Replace all ^p with ^l (lower case L).

The above steps may help reduce odd characters and line spacing issues in Gather articles.

To paste into Gather Mail Messages, make certain you have 'smart quotes' turned off in MSWord, and avoid ellipses.

I'd try to help, but what I know about MS word would fit in a peanut shell!

I haven't had problems pasting from word myself... most gibberish seems to come from pasting from the internet. Once you have posted an article, if it has any weird characters, all you have to do is hit edit and go in and fix the extra "junk" that is in there and you'll be fine. ONce you have made the corrections in the Gather editor, your article should look fine. That junk can make reading articles HARD, so I'm glad you're looking into it.

I did notice you had copied an article from the internet that had that, though, and you may want to be careful to make sure that you aren't copying and pasting copyrighted material. Most news articles aren't supposed to be used on other sites except by quoting from them and giving credit to the author. Just a heads up.

I have a little trouble when I use symbols in word such as ... I get gibberish. I simply paste, preview, edit and correct.

I put mine in notepad first then copy and paste from there

I agree with Debra. Word is good because it has spell check and grammar check, but if you want to be free of formatting, NotePad is a good choice too.

NotePad is especially useful if you want to copy and paste something from the Internet. Just copy and paste it into NotePad first, and then copy and paste into the Gather.com article box.
