When our store was first opened we usually closed at 10:00 PM. Later on we started staying open until 11:00. Usually we would not have eaten any dinner and would be very hungry.
I not a big man, but sometimes have a big man's appetite. I have always loved to eat. Even though I was not that big, I could put away a lot of food. This was especially true when I was extremely hungry.
There were very few restaurants that stayed open late enough so we could eat there after the store closed. There was one restaurant downtown that did stay open and we liked it. They served some of the best shrimp fried rice that I have ever tasted. It was served in a big bowl and was considered a meal by itself for most people.
Often when we ate I was extremely hungry and would order the shrimp fried rice and either have onion rings or a large order of boiled shrimp to go with it. I loved all three and any combination of them was enjoyable.
When we first started going there the waitresses were not as familiar with me as they later became. The same thing happen several times when I ordered these things. We would still be eating the food we had been served and I would signal the waitress. The waitress could see that I did not need more to drink and would assume I wanted the ticket and was about ready to leave. She would bring the bill to the table and lay it down. My response to this was;
"We are not through eating yet. I would like to order the main course."
Something similar has happened a few times at other restaurants also. When I get real hungry sometimes it seems I can not be satisfied. I eat slower than usual so that I can enjoy the taste of the meal for a longer period of time. Sometimes I can eat what should be a regular meal and feel that I am hungrier than when I started eating. I don't know if this is common with other people or not.
