I heard a story once, about a guy that had been feeling a bit rundown. So he went to the doctor. After the check-up, the doctor gave him some bad news- telling him he had only a year to live. The guy left the office, but unlike many others, he didn't get depressed, and lay down and wait to die.
He had worked hard all his life, paid his bills and done everything 'just right'. Now, he decided, he shouldn't put off doing things he'd always wanted to do. So he went out and got lots of credit cards, store cards, bank loans, etc. He quit his job and began to do whatever he wanted to do. If he wanted anything, he'd get it. If he wanted to go to the beach, he did. There was not anything he deprived himself of. He even helped all of his friends.
He hosted some of the best parties around. He thought only the best could do for him. He spent the whole year just basking in enjoyment. In the process, he'd maxed all the credit cards out, and the banks were calling and writing him asking for money. He hadn't paid anything towards his creditors.
The day came, and went, that his doctor had said he wouldn't live past. He was still alive, but he had buried himself in debt.
Not only that, he continued to live, but with his credit dried up, he was no longer the life of the party. His friends soon left him when he no longer had any money. His wife continually fussed about all the hassle from his creditors. She, was the only one that stayed with him, though, but that was more like a thorn always digging in his side. For three more years, he lived like this. When he died, he didn't even have enough money to buy a new suit.
Now, tell me. Could it have been his spending habits that killed him?
