Assumption
Don't you just love it when people ASSUME something based on a statement or article that has NOTHING to do with the way they CHOSE to ASSUME you meant it?
What is the problem with assumption, or assuming you have insight to someone's actual full opinion when it is not stated? Many, if you jump & run with what you thought they meant, only to be way off base.
What does wikipedia have to say on assumption?
An assumption is a proposition that is taken for granted, in other words, that is treated for the sake of a given discussion as if it were known to be true.
- In logic, more specifically in the context of natural deduction systems, an assumption is made in the expectation that it will be discharged in due course via a separate argument.
Defining:
assumption (plural assumptions)
- The act of assuming, or taking to or upon one's self; the act of taking up or adopting.
- The act of taking for granted, or supposing a thing without proof; supposition; unwarrantable claim.
- The thing supposed; a postulate, or proposition assumed; a supposition.
- The minor or second proposition in a categorical syllogism.

Larry. ((hugs)) Some of the biggest problems come out of assuming the wrong thing, at least you KNOW and ADMIT you do this sometimes.
Cheryl - I know that guilt feeling, too, as some of the things I write have to do with broken relationships or smashed dreams from years ago...
Oh, and Kitty, MY old Uncle Walter used to say, "If worst comes to worst, then we're all screwed!"
He did like a drink now and then.
DONT EVEN ASK....LOL
I agree with that Daniel, Bravo ;-)
I for one have fallen victim to this a great deal lately. I've found that people read what they want to in my posinings (another site) and add their own feelings to it. The point I'm making is often taken in a different light and people assume something about it that at times has been the complete opposite.
People have also assumed that because I had a male friend, and we did lots of things together, and we "stuck up" for each other that we must be having a relationship. I think this happens often with male/female friends. People automatically assume there is more to the realtionship and don't bother to ask because....well I don't know why.
APrt of the problem is that one person makes the assumptiona nd then tells someone else, and before you know it, it's reality. Afterall, they say "perception=reality". If enough people come to believe something about you then it must be true and there is little you can do to change what they believe or how they feel.
Assumption can get you in a lot of trouble.
It has become a pet peeve of mine, and just drives me crazy when people assume something way off base.
On the other hand I tend to blow it off and just not sweat it...but sometimes....lol
it just gets on my nerves...heehee
