Diet Coke and Mentos

Have you ever heard what happens when you mix Diet Coke and Mentos?

One weekend a friend of ours had a few people over including us and this topic came up. When we were asked if we had seen the results of this we had to answer honestly and say NO. I was a little nervous answering no as I did not know if this was some silly trick being played on us.

Here is what happens. You quickly add as many white mentos (the white ones are the only ones that work) to a 2 liter of Diet Coke. Be sure to do it quickly and keep your face away from the top of the bottle.

Just about as soon as you put the mentos into the diet coke, you get a fountain of diet coke.

It is a great project to show your kids and anyone else.

yes, i have seen this on the show "mythbusters". I couldnt belive that someone could accidentally mix the two without knowing the outcome!

I could not imagine if you had mentos in your mouth and took a drink of Diet coke... how embarrasing that could be in the right situation.

I've heard of it but never saw the actual results - don't let my grandson hear about this - it's just the thing he would love and enjoy

I never heard of it, but I will have to try it. When I was younger, my grandmother showed me how I could add sugar to my coke and make it fizz, but a fountain...that's cool.
