Today I had enough of cleaning up after the earthquake. I made it most of the way through the house, this is trash, no saving this, this pile to the picture framer for new glass. I had to straighten out every cupboard I opened. Didn't open all of them… instead I ran away to the vegetable garden.
I love working in the vegetable garden when I'm frustrated. First of all it's small and I can finish a task quickly (at least compared to the field or house) and get that wonderful sense of accomplishment. The winter garden is just coming on and there are fresh green beans to munch on while I weed. I'm happily weeding away when I discover (it's been right in front of my face the whole time) in the mauka bed there are few rocks fallen over from the earthquake here too. As the saying goes "you can run but you cannot hide."
For those of you who can grow a winter garden what do you grow?
