Surviving the First Week at Gather

I'm still wandering around a bit at Gather trying to figure it all out. I felt a little dizzy with it all so I decided to create the Gather Lounge, so I could grab a cold one and sit back and observe what others were doing on the site. I've noticed that there are a ton of groups here but some have 1 person or have been sitting idle for months. It will take awhile to search through all the groups I think.

So if you've been here awhile and know what to do, where to go, who to hang around with, what to avoid....pass on the information so new people can join the party. Thanks!

i suggest you just start reading, and looking at pictures... every time you find a story, article, recipe that you like keep a mental note of the poster, same for pictures... after a few times you will begin to recognize names of posters, then you can try to connect with those whose "stuff" you like
then you will begin building your list of connections

Thanks, I think that might be the key. Part of my dizziness was from all the different people all over the site and my own lack of direction. New place, new people, I'm still taking it all in I guess

Hi Robin, I remember wandering aimlessly. I joined a couple of groups that interested me and things started to settle down a little. I posted in the groups and pretty soon a couple of network requests came in. My network has slowly grown and you find your own niche here. Don't get discouraged. It's actually quite a bit of fun. If you write, there are plenty of groups to post your work. If you just want to read, the same groups work. Every taste and interest is satisfied here. Enjoy.
