HOORAY For Liberal Talk Radio

Good news on the First Amendment front!  Liberal talk radio is back!  Air America's demise scared alot of talk radio fans and this has given them something instead to cheer about!

McCain-Feingold's partial strangle hold on political free speech chilled the hearts of supporters of the Constitution.  The death of liberal talk radio looked to tighten that hold through threatened application of the old "Fairness Doctorine"  That Nixon era device to force media to let "opposing viewpoints" free air time to respond to anything on their airwaves.  Well the Repubs used it back then to help strangle some political speech, this time it was the Dems who looked to use it.  Washington state has been using a form of it to kill off debate on a new gas tax out there, it will be going eventually to the Supreme Court and no longer does constitutionality rule there (Kelo/McCain-Feingold proved that)

The return of liberal talk radio under a new name and hopefully a sane business ethic will take away some of that urge to resurrect the "Fairness Doctorine".  Anyone out there who wishes talk radio to remain a vibrant center of ideas/debate should be cheering those liberal millionares for bringing some breathing space for whats left of the First Amendment  (even if it wasn't their intent!)
