{13 photos, for those gathering on dial-up}

we've had a hectic month, with a week-long trip to ohio for a funeral chock in the middle. what i missed most about being away from home was the instant ability to be in nature. here, we can walk out the door (or even look out the bank of floor-to-ceiling windows facing the lake) and be in nature. not just walking to the car and breathing the air, as most people do (alas!), but truly BE. even when i am so sick that it is sometimes too difficult to breathe, i still appreciate it. there's nothing like being on water, and seeing a red leaf drift down to the lake, just missing a lilypad.

and it isn't only about the visuals - we can hear the birds, see the leaves falling, hear the waves slapping the shore, listen to the crinkly whoosh of the swans' wings as they come in for a landing - and the flap flap flap of their feet hitting the water, watching the kingfisher dive for a meal, watch a single red leaf float atop the water, view the seagulls circling...life is busy here, even at its quietest.

we raked (more like piled up) leaves yesterday, and then jumped into them. that rich leaf smell, so dry and intense...that crinkly sound as you move and nestle in...the smile on lillie's face as she dove in, again and again. life doesn't get much better than this.

The pictures are just beautiful, you capture the autumn so well. My favorite is the second one where the autumn colours reflect in the water. it's kust beautiful. And Lili is as always the sweetest little thing. I wish I was jumping around with her in the leafs, that would be so much fun.
I seldom comment on these photo-essays of yours. For me they're quiet moments of reflection (that I reserve for seeing/reading in the mornings) and saying something spoils the solitary mood they enhance. I know, that's terribly selfish of me, so having opened this one this evening because I needed a spot of piece I thought I should tell you how much I enjoy them.
Your photos say so much and your words are always so hopeful. Thanks, Jessie. I hope you're feeling well today.
Your images and prose offer some relief, and plenty of comfort. I appreciate how your personality emerges in every image, every line. I'm partial to the solitary leaf shot. Thank you.
i love fall, it is one of my favorite seasons. now when lillie and i go kayaking, she does almost all of the paddling (yes, it takes forever to get anywhere). she tells me she's doing it so i can take more photos! :) love it!
thanks!!
As always, many thanks and kisses for that darling girl!
Namaste
Once again, your eye is true.
And I agree re: the being a part of nature thing. You just have to see it, smell it, feel it....
