Recently I was introduced to Fabric Postcards. Wow! So much color and fun in one little piece. It's something that seems manageable -- a place to start over again with fabric. Starting here, I may build back up to a quilt at some time, but, in the mean time, I'll use scraps to make little pieces of joy.
To help me get into Fabric Postcards, I found a How-To article online. It provides easy to understand steps and photos to go along with them.
Last night I made my first Fabric Postcard. I wasn't even trying to make a postcard. I was playing around with combining fabrics and fibers and it ended up that the finished piece just happened to be the size of two postcards. Here's one.

I had a great time making this and love the colors/textures. I can't wait to make some more.
I created a Fabric Postcard swap on Swap-Bot. You are more than welcome to join in on the fun.

You can make decorated gift bags this way, too. You can take any paper bag and adhere fabric to it to make it into a gift bag.
The how-to article I linked to shows how to use fusable webbing. You could also use a Xyron if you have one. I think that adhesive will hold up to anything!
How about something like Scotch Guard?
This is an experiment. I'm willing to let it go through the postal system as is. I'm curious how intact it will be when it arrives.
