Card Art

I designed these cards for wedding shower invitations.  With a collection of arts-and-craft store gew-gaws including feathers, netting, plastic pearls, felt, fuzz balls, and glittery crystals, I embelleshed the simple colored pen drawings to create a three dimensional effect.  Elmers glue was the adhesive in most cases.

It was fun to do and I enjoy looking at them from time to time thanks to the wonders of digital photography.

These are so cool! I don't know about where you live, but where I live, handmade "art cards" are all the rage. I bet you could become mildly famous making things like these if you felt like it. Maybe even moderately famous.

I remember one of these lovely ladies was your icon when you first joined Gather.
They are wonderfully sophisticated women, Jan, and the hats are simply fabulous,
darling! You know how much I love hats--or, at least you should, I'm wearing my Stetson right now as I type.

It is so much fun to see this collection assembled together to admire the specific personalities of each. What a delightful idea to use these for a wedding shower.I am sure they will be treasured for a long time by the recipients. David is correct in stating that art trading cards are a new rage. On eBay many artists are selling them, in the standard size of I think 2 1/2" x 3" to fit in the sports card sleeves and some of them go up to successful sales of $150.00. You are so clever and multi-talented ,sweet friend!

I think the purple hat/green pin and matching green choker and earrings.

My best friend is part of a group of artists working on creating art cards. They even have art card swap parties........I catered the one held at my friend's and there were 20 artists there, each was supposed to bring 20 of her cards and the group drew numbers to "pick" the cards they wanted, one each round. It was a lot of fun and everyone left with a complete collection of cards.

these are very beautiful cards-- huge card market out there, but it requires incrdible diligence and tons of discipline to crack it.

aloha Jan - what i find initially compelling in these cards/ladies is the juxtaposition of the hats with the personality you convey with their eyes. to this you have added specific details of some element of their attire as well as individual hair styles and jewelry which carry the the entire image into an attitude/statement that most recognize in some way as universal. there is a lot of organization in that process - that's art. wow. way cool. aloha Wrick.

I agree you could make cards and sell them I met a lady that makes them and sells them on e-bay. It's a thought if it's something you enjoy.

...what beautiful images...the women seem to be from a time when "class" and "decorum" were words used to describe ladies...very nice!

You are very talented and full of surprizes. Your artwork has a maturity yet youthful imperfection and delecacy - always with strong contrasts and powerful colors and lines that make strong statements of self and your perceived reality. Superb!
