Rescue Me...What a terrific TV show, with a message

I just recently finished watching the first season of Denis Leary's Rescue Me on DVD,

After watching the third season this summer, I realized I had really missed an incredible show by not watching the first two seasons..

My daughter had told me about the show two years ago but for some reason, I just never got around to it, probably because another of my shows was on opposite it.

What a show this is....for those of you who haven't watched or heard of it , it is basically the story about Firefighters in New York City...

The opening sequence sets up what's to come by showing the men going into the World Trade Center right after the horrific event occurred on that fateful day..The confusion on Denis Leary's face, (tommy) as he looked around at the people fleeing, or jumping out the window, his entrance into the stairwell with his friends/co-workers was heart wrenching...Without any words we could feel what those brave first responders must have felt that day,

The rest of the series is just as remarkable. What is it like to be a firefighter? To be brave enough to go into a fire when all others are running out.

It takes a special kind of person..Yes these men are a bit on the raunchy side, there is a lot of sex and sex talk, very graphic to say the least, but there are plenty of other subjects dealt with too.

I recommend this series to any and all people who want an inside look at the life and experiences, the anguish and tumalt these men go through on a daily basis. Though a very serious subject matter, there is quite a lot of humor in the show as well..It is truly an exceptional show!

This is a 3 disc set on DVD with commentary by Leary  available at Blockbuster on line and most likely Netflicks  too...Season four doesn't start until next summer so there is plenty of time to catch up..:)
