This week on Dancing with the Stars, our celebrities and their professional partners took on either the Waltz or the Pasodoble. I was especially excited to see the Pasadobles, since Drew Lachey's performance last season totally rocked - I can still see him spinning that cloth around to Thriller!
Monique: Waltz. My husband remarked that 'she's very good' and that she was wearing 'a very nice dress' (a soft, seafoam green two-piece). She's really a lovely dancer and did quite well this evening - she was graceful and had pretty lines. Carrie-Ann 'was touched'. After seeing Emmitt's score, I think she was robbed.
Scores: 8, 8, 8 = 24
Emmitt: Pasodoble. My husband said 'he should be good at this' before the dance started. I liked their outfits - bright red dress for her and a red shirt with black pants and vest for him - very striking. He didn't quite have 'the rooster posture' as my husband said. It was good, but not as good as I might have hoped. Bruno loved it; Carrie-Ann said he 'scared' her; Len said it was 'well done', so I guess I don't know much. :)
Scores: 8, 8, 8 = 24
Willa: Waltz. She looked like a princess in a white, flowy gown with her hair up. Her footwork was very good and she exuded a certain grace and romantic elegance. Carrie-Ann: 'You swept me away'; Len: 'Willa the thrilla' and 'absolutely delightful'; Bruno: 'so technically polished that to me it was perfect'. I was really impressed with this dance.
Scores: 9, 9, 10 = 28
Sara: Pasodoble. Her facial expressions were quite severe most of the time and I'm not quite sure how I feel about the dark eye make-up! She seemed a little stiff and didn't quite have the dance-passion that others have had. She was nicely in-character, though. Len said that this 'was not' her 'dance'.
Scores: 6, 7, 7 = 20
Jerry: Waltz. Not related to the dance itself, but the intro when he talked about his daughter's upcoming wedding had me crying. Bruno said it was 'his best dance to date'; Carrie-Ann said 'you touched us all'. Even Len said 'it was a delight; well done'. I have to be honest - even I was pretty impressed with his hold and rhythm. I think his emotional connection to the dance did wonders for the performance.
Scores: 7, 7, 8 = 22
Vivica: Pasadoble. My husband didn't like her dress - he thought the ruffles concealed too much of her footwork; I'm inclined to agree that the bottom ruffle matching the color of her shoes didn't help. Carrie-Ann wanted her to be a little more feminine in her dancing, and I agree. I thought it was an ok dance with a lot of excitement and power, but not one of my favorites.
Scores: 8, 8, 8 = 24
Joey: Waltz. I'm really not sold on the white suit, especially in the bright lights, but it worked. The judges all loved it and thought it was great; for me, I would have liked more moving and a little less posing by Edyta (even though her extensions are lovely). It was a very elegant, energetic dance overall.
Scores: 9, 9, 9 = 27
Mario: Pasodoble. My husband: 'I don't believe he's never done this before'. It was yet another exciting, theatrical, pleasing performance from Mario and Karina. His footwork and form were awesome. Bruno: 'You are the embodiment of Latin pride'. I particularly enjoyed it when Carrie-Ann and Bruno booed Len for saying he lacked posture (even thought I sort of agreed with him).
Scores: 10, 9, 10 = 29
My pick for who goes home tomorrow: Sara. I was impressed with Jerry this week, though I'm concerned that he'll slip back to his old ways next week. I think his fanbase will keep him on. Though Sara also has a large fan base, I was pretty disappointed with her dance this week.
