Schools teaching Evolution

Evolution is taught because it is science,science demands evidence of some sort.The other is "faith",not knowing 100% if something is real,invisible man who lives in the sky(?) who waved his wand and created the world.That is not science,it belongs in church,not school.
As to your question,I tried finding something on google about children being able to leave class when it is taught,but could not find anything.You should contact your school board about that.

I am not sure if it allowed or not.

I know when my teen was learning it. I told him that is what all the non belivers came up with to try and prove the Christians wrong. But we can not knock them for what they believe. Just like no one should knock what we believe. This led in to the discussion on what should be tolerated by others.

Joe, he did pass the class!!! The them was done appropriately, the teacher did not agree with his thoughts, that was all. Did not mean to start something with you, just wanted an opinion if it was appropriate for the student to get up and leave the classroom. I told him he could not just get up and leave and he disagreed with me.

So, how's that flat earth society membership working out for you?

So, Pam, let me understand this. If the school was studying WWII and the students were asked to write a theme on the Holocaust, and a student didn't believe it had happened, not based on any factual evidence, but because his church told him it was ficticious, would it be o.k. if he just walked out of class? Maybe a student belongs to the "Church of Non-geometric Design" - should he be able to skip out on the work on triangles and parallelograms?

Unfortunately, this has always been taught. You are not allowed to pray outloud as a class but you have to be quiet and listen to stuff that is being taught, even if you dont believe in it. I dont know.........it is a twisted world. We dont get to choose who is being discriminated against.........by the way......who is deciding these IMPORTANT matters in our society ? hum.............. I agree with you Pam but the school system doesnt. You might contact your Board of Education or the State board of education but I really doubt it will help. Just remember this problem when election comes around and vote for canidates that will support our believes.

I checked with the San Diego City Schools District. They have a provision that does not specifically address the subject of evolution but does allow parents to opt out of classes for religious and moral grounds. I spoke with the assistant superintendant who assured me it would apply to your question.

By the way, San Diego has all its school policies online now so you might be able to find out on the net. The people I talked to were quite helpful but I am sure it could vary from school district to school district.

There are some that get their kicks making fun of those that believe God exists. It is of course a crude and hypocritical form of amusement, but many are rather dogmatic in their dis-belief, and feel threatened by those that express another view.

They can't just leave a class. Education is not only learning what you believe, but understanding the theories in order to make an informed decision. If you only know one side of an argument, how can you say for certain that the other side is incorrect? Your son has the right to the leave the class, but the teacher has the right to fail your son, as well.

I suppose leaving the class could be allowed under the guise of conscientious objector.
The Bible does not teach Genetics so I suppose 'THE BELIEVERS' HAVE THE RIGHT NOT TO ACCEPT IT. No where in the Bible is commonsense mentioned so 'BELIEVERS' do not have to exhibit it. IT WOULDBE NICE IF MOM COULD OBSERVE THE STAGES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A FOETUS INSIDE OF HER AND LOOK CAREFULLY AT THE DIFFERENT STAGES AND MARVEL AT THE WAY SOME STAGES ARE VERY MUCH LIKE THOSE OF, for example, a fish or a frog[ note carefully the appearance of a tail-like structure which later dissappears. try then to understand the term ' ONTOGENY [the development of the individual recapitulates PHYLOGENY [ the sequence of events involved in the EVOLUTION of a species etc.] IF after this you still feel that the concept is Rubbish you are not answerable to anyone and GOD WOULD CLEARLY VINDICATED ASTO WHY HE DID
NOT SHARE HIS TECHNOLOGICAL EXPERTISE WITH HIS EARLY PEOPLE. I AM SURE HE IS AWARE THAT EVEN IN THESE 'LATTER-DAYS' MANY ARE STILL NOT AWARE OF THE DEPTHS OF HIS MYSTERY.......the clay is still obscuring the non existent DNA etc. etc. after all Adam is stil eating the APPLE forcing some people into NUDISM !!!!!
