The arrogance of absolutism leads to all manner of perversion. Revelations about people in the US Government now boiling to the surface are not unprecedented. The perversity of absolutism, despotism, whether in politics or religion is likely to and does surface in repetitious ways.
In his "Timetables of History", Bernard Grun identifies a time in Imperial Christian History when the papacy was "pornocratic" even as it became politically absolute. This label attached toward the end of the first Christian millennium. Pope Sergius III (904-911) fathered a son with his mistress Marozia who became Pope John XI (931-937). Marozia's nephew became Pope John XIII (965-972); and her grandson was Pope Benedict VI (973-974).
Dominion Theology is an arrogant male creation that fabricates and justifies pretexts by which males dominate over females and the less powerful in personal self-interest. Male dominion in the animal kingdom once served evolutionary survival purposes. But that survival technique has been replaced with a new one, the cortical brain. The evolution of the cortical brain prefers intelligence to brute violence and changes the status-quo of everything. The cortical brain is structured to dialog over experiences and come to conclusions with respect to habits that may once have served a purpose but which no longer make sense. The faculty, process and product of rational brain dialog are called "reason".
Faith is the cumulative wisdom of evolving reason. Fixation in the rigidity of absolutism is arrogance, the antithesis of faith-wisdom and commonsense. In its fixations the "religious right" is irrationally committed to arrogant political absolutism as is the present United States Government. Divine Wisdom is Intelligent Design, the evolving faith of transformational intelligence that changes everything on expectations of Love.
