Truth or Myth?

I don't know where to turn for answers to this question so I'm asking the Gather community. Well, I guess I could do an Internet search, but you guys are such a wealth of information that I'm sure someone has the answer.

The other day I heard what I call an "urban myth." I refused to believe it, but thought there might be some validity.

Here it is:

"Some gynecologists take medication of some type to inhibit their sexual responses or urges during exams."

Is this true?

I hope I don't appear foolish or naïve … oh well…

Interesting question. I have never heard that. I would think it is a myth. Now I might have to go do a search and see what I find.

I consulted my favorite site for all things Urban Legends,

www.snopes.com

and they have nothing on it. Personally, I've never heard this one.

I knew a woman who was married to a gynecologist, and he told her that he just doesn't even think about it that way . . . it's all, um, internal to him.

The professionals constantly exposed to a situation generally have a matter-of-fact response to it as opposed to person who may just chance to get that exposure. The responses are aroused by emotions. It explains a surgeon's apathy and a casual observer's revulsion at seeing a major surgical operation. For gynecologists the examination of body parts is a normal routine. I do not think they need any medication to inhibit sexual responses.

Dolphi, That was my response to the person who told me, but they argued so intently... I think it is a myth as well. David, that's what I thought!

First I heard of that. It reminds me of the old rumor that the military puts the same thing in the food during basic training to keep them focused. Myth.
