Keeping track of the numbers.
It is always difficult to reach an audience especially now a days.
Everyone has limited attention spans and so few respond to anything except maybe the most unusual and bizarre material.
When I produced my television show on broadcast they had a ratings system in which a station could subscribe and track their audience and in that way they could determine advertising rates and utilize it for marketing purposes.
In my prime I had twenty thousand watch me weekly and rarely could I go anywhere without running into people that knew me or had somehow participated in my program.
I understand response is important especially for anyone curious as to their value in creating their art.
Why do it –if not for the recognition?
The industry of infomercials' is a direct response business that exists from a direct response.
I am one of the guilty ones that rarely respond, because I don't go looking for things and I understand my time is so rare now a days.
Yes there are Television programs that ask me to vote and participate and then there is the advertising that bombards me always to buy, buy, and buy!
I find that I get bored so fast anymore and unless you can express yourself fast and concise I am off to another place.
So what is the secret to reaching an expressing audience of loyal participants and how can you keep people motivated in listening or watching or reading your material?
I find that even people finding all the links and ways to really see what I am trying to communicate are looked past and people only see what they want to see and are oblivious to the rest.
Common ground is the one thing that people find the most enjoyable and I marvel when I track an audience to see what most people want to see.
So variety entertainment covers the gamut, but it is not who I am it is only what I choose to present.
If it has taken you longer than 60 seconds to read this far then you can include yourself in the group of people that are interested.
Unfortunately you are in the minority, but thank you for giving me your time.
Happy Unbirthday and best regards,

Learning to be patient is the key... I guess. If you got something good, it will hold it's own. When I compose a song or post an article written with urgency from my heart, I crave to see instant validation of my effort.
But that ain't always the case.
I suppose the things that are strongly marketed to us don't always hold up or can easily fall short. That's why they have to beat it into our heads. Much of it is smoke and mirrors. I heard a crappy song on the radio the other day and was amazed that they were trying to push it. But after hearing it ten times (turn that office radio off!) I found my foot tapping to it.
Good Luck!
PS - Major Lingo is great...love the mullet! lol
As far as how to motivate people to return and read your material, I think you have to appeal to some NEED in them, whether it is to learn something new, relate to what you've written, connect with like-minded souls or seek inspiration. Find the need, fill it and you'll get loyal readers.
Me? I write about books, writing and bookselling as well as collecting old and new books and magazines. So I write for people who like the same things.
