I went to a GREAT show tonight in Somerville at Jimmy Tingle's Off Broadway Theater. It is called The Ego and The Oracle.
The "ego" part of the show is a band called Jim's Big Ego. I'd never heard of this rock trio before, but I became an instant fan. I brought home two CDs of their music and I put my name on their mailing list, two things I rarely do. Their music is a mix of serious and humorous, political commentary and everyday life. If you are like me and enjoy music with lyrics you can understand and have meaning, you'll likely enjoy Jim's Big Ego.
The "oracle" part of the show is a serendipitous selection of music to answer a question. The audience is asked to submit questions at the beginning of the show. During the show, questions are randomly selected. The person who asked the question spins a large wheel labeled with some of the songs written by Jim's Big Ego. The band plays the song, then the lead singer and Andreas Jones (the guy who dreamed up this musical divination entertainment) banter about how the song answered the question.
Sometimes humorous, sometimes serious -- all in all, the show is a great combination of music and meaning. If you get a chance, don't miss the show! They have one more show in Somerville tomorrow night at 7:30.
