I've always liked the idea of sending money to people anonymously -- just pull their name out of the phone book. I think it would be neat to open your mail and find a check for $500.

Buy a house big enough to fit our family of kids and animals. Buy another car or two. (these are desperate needs I have at the moment) Start a scholarship fund. Buy a llama. Build an arts and craft center for the talented crafters to sell their items all year long and for our local musicians to entertain us. Travel. Quit my job and volunteer time and money to local charities.

then homes and cars for my children and invest, live off the interest and give 25% to worth people/charities

If I won that kind of money, I would buy that house on Lake Megunticook in Maine that I have salivated over for the past 10 years while vactioning there. I would open a bowling center, buy a few places I used to work at Gotta stay busy) and fire a few of those morons and set up a trust fund for my children so that they would not have to struggle like I do.
I would also tyke care of my mother. She has done so much for me that I could never repay her.

What a great question, Marilyn! I like Roxanne's answer...Pay off our church building, I think, too, and help people, especially kids trying to put themselves through college. Open a business with enough security to enjoy it and worry more about making it a real success and not just making a profit.

I had to go back to the top and see just how much money we were to have won. So, I laughed because nobody is impressed by winning one million dollars anymore, has to be megamillions. In our town, we had a man who won such an amount. He and his wife had a modest home in the heart of town. He would ride his old bike to the store to buy his lotto tickets. They volunteered at the food bank. Good people. Whenthey got the money, they bought a home in a gated community. Maybe they are doing generous things quietly and in private. The man also said he would continue to play the lottery.
I'd buy land set for development and let it remain wild.

Develop a foundation for diabetic kids worldwide, establish a fund for deserving young folks to get an education, help to re-furbish historical locations worldwide & go fishing.... a lot...!

Alot of things I would like to do with the winnings IF I won. Give to Church, pay off home, Yardwork, Vacation on the Hawaiin Islands, Build a house on our land for my Mother who is 84, Purchase a Home for our 2 children who r adults now, and Start our own Buisiness.

If we were blessed to win that much money, after tax and tithe, hubby and I would DEFINITELY move out of this apartment and get a house in a nice, quiet, clean neighborhood. It wouldn't have to be a huge mansion, just spacious enough for us and for a couple of kids, since we are considering either adopting or becoming foster parents at some point. We would also get rid of our clunker of a car and buy something decent, maybe a truck or SUV and maybe get a timeshare somewhere in California, near the beach.

Beyond that, it would be kind of cool to establish a scholarship for deserving high-school seniors, since both my late parents were teachers and I'd like for something that helps others to be established in their name.

I would buy the loft downtown that I think about from time to time and put the rest in a trust for my son an niece. Most of you have some very good ideas, but it would take more than a million to take over the world.

Pay off all my family's bills, build a big house on 10 acres somewhere in the country and build a no-kill shelter for pit bulls. Then invest whatever is left and live off the interest.

Give most of it to my children and grandchildren.

Share with my community, pay off bills, buy a different house. College for my kids. Start a business so my husband and I could work for ourselves. Take a real vacation. (Neither of us have ever had one) Do something nice for my family (mom, brother, sister) that they would never do for themselves. I know a million probably wouldn't do ALL of this so I would have to decide which is more important, but it's nice to dream.

OK- I just went back and re-read! a hundred Million! Well! I would start several scholorship funds for needy kids. Give a LOT of money to our women's shelter. Start some kind of program to get the drug problem in our schools stopped. Open a community center that focuses on meeting the needs of the children and the elderly in our town. I can't imagine all the good that could be done.

Get my friends out of debt, Buy a huge house in the country on lots of land, Take a very long trip to Europe, Build a cottage on my property just for writing, Give to deserving charities, and build a new Burn Unit at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago.

I would pay all my in laws properties off. I would buy a house to live in where my kids can all have a room of their own with a door on each. I would move my mom to Florida with me and buy homes or vehicles for my siblings. Probably give them some cash as well. Set up some kind of trust fund where they can only get some much money a month on. So they will be set for years to come. I would open my own restaurant with homemade foods. I would also come up with some kind of building with stuff for teens to go to. So they have something to do to keep them off the streets. Something that would offer regular dancing, something the kids like to do..such as playing pool, possibly video game and other competitions. I would defiantly help out my home town. Rebuild and help out the mom and pop stores....I also would start an ad running in my home towns newspaper where people could write in for something they need or someone else may need. Depending on how they ask and what they ask for. I would grant it...That is something I have always wanted to do.

Get a full body transplant so I could keep posting meaningless comments forever.

i'd establish scholarships for single parents that include a stipend for GOOD childcare and transportation; build and staff proper schools for children and adults in the ravashed and abandoned areas of africa, and supplement the HIV education and prevention work being done throughout the world. then...i'd fly a group of my girlfriends to a private island for a week-long girl-talk pajama party!

Definitely invest the money. Let's say I won $100 mil... At the prevailing 4% interest, that's $4 million a year in interest. With that money, I'd quit my job, take care of my kid, give some to some needy relatives and then relax. I'd take some time to figure out what to do with the rest... but with $4 mil a year, I can do a lot for charity, my kids, etc.

I'd have all of the glitches on Gather fixed....

First, my money won't come from any lottery. it will be done by my own doing. Secondly, I will take over the world and be rid of hypocritical politicians (who e-mail pages molesting them digitally), criminals who get away with everything in inner cities, and anywhere else (set the death penalty for pedophiles and rapists as mandatory sentencing, set up a bonafide appeals system that will get you pardoned in a year or executed whatever dna and other evidence an independent council can dig up) give inner cities whatever money they need to rebuild after the social catastrophe to educate everyone, once all criminal elements are permanently eradicated, and end widespread suffering that unseen people profit from every millisecond. every day. like Nike, paying diddly to workers in Thailand who work in pre 19th century conditions. and lose arms and limbs for cents on the dollar for your bloody Jordans. to name just one company of unseen people. but then again, I don't need money for all that. just all of us doing a global walk out will achieve that. the people make their governments and the people make the planet and though I hate the facelessness of socialism and more so communism, facetations (my own word I know) still uphold some essential truths.

My motto, as far as lotteries are concerned is simple "You can't lose if you don't play!" ;-)

About thirty years ago I was in Honduras on several occassions and it amazed me that there was a lottery kiosk on virtually every corner. At the same time, the cities were surrounded by a belt zone of large cardboard boxes like are used to ship household appliances. It took awhile to realize why this was so when such a huge percentage of the people were living in abject poverty. I eventually came to understand that it was a message that the people lacked hope. They knew there was no normal way despite their willing to commit to long periods of hard labor that they could ever lift themselves out of poverty. So they took whatever mite they had and invested in lottery tickets. You can understand then when shortly thereafter I was shocked to see a tidal wave of legal lottery wash across the United States. It was a harbinger of bad times to come.

Yeah I like how here in Floridumb the proceeds for lotto are supposed to go directly back into education. But as far as I can tell, we still have the same number of "F" rated schools in my area as we've always had since they've implemented the system.

Invest, so I don't need to work again if I don't want to.

Pay off my student loans and any debt my family has.

Create a scholarship fund at my high school and my college.

Buy a home in Chicago. Buy my family's summer home in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

Travel.

Donate to an animal shelter.

That's a good start, anyways...

Step one...hire a good accountant and a good lawyer! lol Everyone has their particular little project that they'd like to put into action given the funds to do so. Some of the things I've always wanted to do or worthy causes I'd like to support...

The Elder's Heating fund on Pine Ridge reservation
Help to set up a grocery type store where folks on this reservation could get some affordable and Healthy food!
Donate computers and top quality supplies to as many reservation schools as I could.
The Wild Hearts Horse fund
support local artistic endeavors like the wonderful Macabre family who runs Castle Blood or the local Renaissance festival.

set up a no-kill shelter and animal rescue fund in New Castle Pa where the local shelter is simply deplorable, and animal abuse is common!

and finally
A local dog park - an enclosed park specifically for dogs and their pets (owners) where they can play off of their leashes!

invest, save, eventualy donate some huge portion to charity.
