Dispoasable cameras can be a great teaching tool for small children. Go for little walks or go exploring in your own yard. If the child can't quite yet work the buttons, let him/her decide what pictures are to be taken. Be sure to "oooh and ahhh" about the wondrous things you find. That will make it easier for the child to remember when the film is developed and the pictures bring back the memory of your excursion. The child will enjoy being with you, learn some about nature, and over time, maybe will gain an appreciation of photography.
