'This is Radio Pakistan' 14th August 1947 A day of tremedous excitement in my parents life. Our own country our own land. The great struggle was over.
Freedom at last.Freedom attained.Freedom bestowed. Freedom acquired.
A small hill station Murree was the first place where I started my life with my parents. It snowed in winters and remained cool and wet during the summers.
'Drying clothes was the greatest problem'
My mom rembered.'The army uniform would never be completely dry.' and father would be so upset'.
Coal was used as a fuel. It still is though natural gas is also supplied. The atmosphere was smoky dull and lonesome.
Murree is still one of the favourite tourist resorts.
Then it was Rawalpindi. The smart Mall Road where a tonga with a strong Arabic horse would go clop clop so gracefully. It was the best ride in town. Only 50 paisa for a three mile journey from the Cantonment to the local market.
Queen Victorias dignified statue stood fortified halfway down the Mall in front of the Fashmans Hotel.People coming to the Rawalpindi Cricket Club could pay their respects to Her Majesty.
I started school and loved the tonga ride early in the morning feeling so fresh and enjoying the leather rein control of the strong brown horse. The bell would ring 'clang clang' if , I repeat 'if' anyone would be closeby on a bike' AH there are no more such tonga rides.
well, my earliest memories are full of fun joy laughter , reading literature music and so many games and treasure hunts, but whither the Peaceful Learning environment'
I will continue later as nostalgia grips me now ........
