My father connected me to a man with a plan to change the way we commute:
He has tried for over 30 years to get "the powers that be" to listen to his plan. "Most people can't understand completely what my plan is. So I haven't been able to get them to help." Undaunted, he continues...
He has some simple ideas like: 
"I want to organize the school buses so that they have an income. Delivering passangers that pay for the bus service instead of being parked while students are in school classes. There is so much they can do with that bus, school buses can pay a large part of the schools way. We wouldn't need taxes to build the schools. The schools could build their own."
He sometimes gets seemingly encouraging feedback from important people:
"Dear Mr. Andersen:
Thank you for the copy of your regional mass transit plan that you handed to me in Enumclaw. I appreciate being advised of your ideas.
I want you to know that I believe that the future vitality of our nation's economy is dependent on a sound and healthy transportation system and I am bringing a copy of your plan to the attention of the appropriate officials at the Urban Mass Transit Administration.
Again, I appreciate your bringing this proposal to my attention.

I suspect that he's not the only person to come up with such a plan. Money and politics sometimes mix and subvert the interests of the masses. I wonder how much of his plan will become a reality.

My father has known Alan for years, I'm pretty sure that the man actually exists. Some of his ideas have been used, like the "Park-n-Ride" which we in Seattle now call a "Park and Ride". We do have a huge bus tunnel in Seattle that has stops at shopping centers throughout the downtown area. However, I have yet to see shopping malls on top of freeway "clover leaf" intersections. If something like "Alans Master Transit Plan" is to take hold in this country, my bet is that it will start in some touristy area, like Disney World or Las Vegas, where large corporations want to cheaply transport tourists to the various locations where they will spend their hard earned money.

Admittedly, I have not followed the links here and I think the Park and Rides (or Kiss and Ride as they are sometimes called) are a wonderful idea. But it sounds like alansplan involves privatization of a piece of public education and that bothers me.
It is possible that further investigation of alansplan would produce additional ideas, however, and that's exactly what is needed.
Alan has part of a plan, and with the right help, with the right refining of the details, some of his rough ideas could help a lot of people.
That is why I have attempted to convey the message that he wishes to share, hopefully without adulterating it. I may add my own ideas at a later date, but I wanted merely to help.
