'And then there was war' war between two countries and hundreds and thousands of people were killed.
Two nations were divided.
The war was for land, the refugee problem was due to 'No homeland '
The thoughts today are for 'no hometown'?
I wish to migrate to a better place- and my search continues.
'We are at war with India' these words are still loud and clear as I heard them on the radio in Sept 1965;
The 17 day war brought national literary awareness , spirit of sacrifice was supreme and all were one in thought word and deed.
Time passed,
I found myself taking refuge on the roadside dangerously exposed to the bombs and shells of enemy aircraft. The year 1971.My son a month and a half was in my arms.War had been declared and the main bridge of Lahore city was under attack.I was trying to reach my rented home --
My child was born in the year of another war 1971-
again the country was divided and for many there was no homeland.
This is September 2006, for us September has become unforgettable.
My daughter was married on the 28th in the year of 9/11.She is in the Middle East and has told me 'Mom one day I have to return -'
'Please start building a house' I keep telling her so that when the time comes you can say
'I am going home'
Me still on the yellow brick road' Hi HO Hi Ho
