Silence can be a
grudging yes, or a resounding No!
Or a million hues inbetween.
Silence can't label you a loose woman
nor a flirt.
Silence impales me on my own cross.
Silence is a 600-page book you throw
at me. Every page blank.
Silence is an obscene guffaw
from a djinn rising out of my aborted
desires.
Silence stares deadpan like an executioner.
Silence is a full-stop stretched to eternity.

Interesting...
I like this "Silence is a full-stop stretched to eternity."
In our marriage, silence is a more telling argument than loud screaming. It works better, too. :-)
Ed, your comments are usually priceless and along with Juniper my most faithful
follower here, both of you make me think in a new direction with each potent comment.
Cheerz!
What I most enjoyed in this poem that craftily uses the deliberate Sufi 'scattershot' method of delivering extreme examples that trigger mind blooms of explosive associations is the authority in each statement: The voice is so invested in each extravagant image, we cannot help ourselves from reading the individual sentences over and over, because the image is now grafted on our access consciousness while our phenomenology of depth seeks explanation.
Brilliant as always.
The last spellbinding phrase--"Silence is a full-stop stretched to eternity--" I am going to use as my contemplative text this morning, before I go in for my CAT scan. I take it as a resounding YES! I know it will calm my nerves; I find so much peace in it.
Silence is an ocean, and our voices are like frozen cubes of chatter dropped into it finally--or were they ever apart from the Source at all?
This comment of yours is lovely birthday gift (27th is the day) for me...
I fervently pray your CAT scan comes out better, for friends here have been alerted to your condition and prayers have started.
As usual I have spied nuclei in your comment that could branch out into massively heavy poems later... your last two lines in this comment held me mesmerized for some minutes -you do possess this uncanny ability to spur voices on. Though your query is vastly profound, I can hazard a guess -yes, the frozen cubes of chatter are a part of the Source as much as steam or ice remains water in chemistry. It's all a matter of transformation, metamorphosis and perception. Did you ever wonder the whole universe/s may just be an interplay of energy to mass to energy re-conversion... like black-holes connected to white-holes that spew out matter into the neighbouring universe/s?
Keep meditating -nothing better than that. You are evolving like a butterfly from a cocoon and it can be excruciating, the whole process.
Cheerz!
Sorry for thhe long silence. I guess your poetry did break my silence. I was away in the Kumaon Himalayas amidst lush verdant valleys, the snow capped peaks , the crisp air. and now getting used to the so called Civilised Metro life of Mumbai.
However, Reading your poetry, especially the last line of the poem literally shifted the ground beneath my feet. Incredible, No words to express my feeling. I felt choked as if the words had vanished or the silence had vanquished the words in my mouth.
Touched, moved and affected!
cheerz!
Take care, and thanks.
