Terror at the Canadian border!

No, it isn't another terrorist attack. The "terror" I am speaking of is of another nature. The border guards (60 of them) at the Canadian border (British Columbia) walked off the job today when they found out from the US Homeland Security officials there might be a murder suspect headed their way. Why? Because they are allowed to walk off the job if they fear for their lives. You see, Canandian border guards don't carry guns. Is this world just nuts, or what?

In the article it said: "Some motorists faced a wait up more than three hours."

"The Canadian government has promised a *10-year program to arm its guards." more....

*10 Years???? Wow, getting right on it, eh? [they are suppose to start arming them in 2007]

Wait a minute. So you're saying that with all that searching and screening, if they actually DID find something dangerous they are powerless to do anything about it?How do they detain the offender while they are waiting for the police?

They're a little different in Canada. I must say, the border between Washington and Vancouver is quite a mess. Not like the ones here in Michigan.

Different isn't what I would call it. Stupid is more like it. The powers that be in Canada still haven't figured out that it is NOT GUNS THAT CAUSE CRIME so they are not allowed to own guns. Since they don't consider border guards to be law enforcement they don't get guns. Personally I think it is too much hastle to cross the border these days so I am staying put and spending my money in the good old US of A.

Well, they can;t have guns according to some treaty that the US and Canada signed. That border is susposed to be unprotected and unguarded. Stupid treaties...

They are suppose to start arming the border guards in 2007, but what about in the mean time? Personally, I love our Canadian neighbors, and it pains me to think that anyone would be killed because they were not properly equipped to do their job. I wonder if the guards can carry box cutters for self defense??

I think that what I have read about Canadian border guards with no guns is just nuts. Try coming the other way with issues and you will be smartly detained. Why does the Canadian government have to sit on thier hands until somebody really gets hurt. Get real, it's a dangerous world now, and a lot of people want to do harm to others.

That really is unreal and strange to think that they aren't even allowed to carry a gun. Gee, I don't blame them for walking off the job. That's where the police should be patrolling then.
